EXEC's Posts
3/25/2004 - 401/402 that we were reading, and there are some great moments in
it. Lauren, Shane, Adamo, Aubrey, Melissa, Andrea and Pat M. were able to make
it there...
4/24/2004 - Shooting our first scene on 4/26 (which is actually scene #22 in the
script) by about 8:15am. It will feature Ashley and Craig, and Ellie will be
in it as well, along with Coach Armstrong and Mr. Raditch.
4/26/2004 - The first scene went great, and I was just outside where we were
rehearsing the car crash. We used two beat-up cars for the rehearsal, and they
crashed really well! It's great to be back!
4/27/2004 - Wait till you see everyone's hair styles this year. I think they
all are looking GREAT!!
4/28/2004 - Tomorrow we shoot the car crash, can't wait to see the rushes!! OK
here's a bit of a spoiler hint: Yes there will be one or two new characters;
but also there is a character who will not be returning this season...
5/3/2004 - Miriam looks terrific this year, probably the most changed of all
the cast. Part of it is her braces are gone, but mostly she has grown taller
and wears her hair differently...
5/5/2004 - And right now the final shots of 401/402 are happening on our
backlot. Hard to believe that we've almost shot two episodes of Season 4!! The
last scene we shoot (of course we shoot out of order) will feature Spinner and
Paige...
5/7/2004 - To answer a question, the car crash turned out great... a bit sad
though, we had to crash a quite beautiful yellow 1976 Corvette!
5/7/2004 - Oh, and I just checked out a scene which was cut together from
yesterdays rushes featuring JT. It is undoubtedly the funniest scene of all
time on Degrassi, I was rolling with laughter!!
5/11/2004 - Just watched an edit of a good scene with Emma, Paige and Rick and
some others at The Dot; meanwhile on the monitor I can see a scene featuring
Paige and Marco bumping into Alex in the school corridors...
5/11/2004 - Terri will not be back this season, at least not as a regular, her
father is insisting she go to a private school to get her away from Rick...
5/14/2004 - This year the post production of both Degrassi and Instant Star
will be in High Definition, so we've been having a lot of discussion about
different lenses, different lighting etc. so you might notice a difference--
watching on a normal channel like CTV or Noggin there won't be TOO much of a
difference, should be a tiny bit sharper, but if you watch in Canada on Rogers
digital cable, or the High Definition Channel of Bell Expressvu, then Season 4
will look amazing!!

5/21/2004 - I was in Ottawa yesterday, so I missed the scene where someone's
place goes up in fire, but apparently it worked out great! Just now watching
on the monitor as Ellie does a scene with a pet ferret!!!
5/26/2004 - We're still shooting episodes 405 and 406, but then we will go
right into 407/408. I won't say very much about those episodes except that
they are major episodes. Very major episodes!
6/09/2004 - We had a VERY intense day of shooting at Degrassi today, which we
can't talk about but it will probably be on everyone's top ten Degrassi
moments!
6/16/2004 - I was in Banff for a few days at a television conference, and also
we have been very busy wrapping the shooting of 407 and 408 (episodes I won't
even hint about they are so important.
And just before leaving for Banff I was in the recording studio with a great
record producer David Ogilvie who has produced a remixed version of the
Degrassi theme song that has a new variation on the melody, there is no choir,
it is a single voice, and with distorted guitars--sounds very cool. We have to
produce a slightly different version of the opening to Degrassi this year,
partly because Terri is not in the show this season, but also because we are
completing Degrassi for the first time in high definition format--so we have
to re-process the opening sequence so that it is in high definition as well...
6/25/2004 - ...starting Tuesday we are back to Degrassi, 409 and 410.
AND just saw a rough assembly of Degrassi 407/408. It is the most moving
Degrassi story of all time.
6/26/2004 - Tuesday when we start shooting Degrassi again we're on location
and we do the beach scene with Sean and the jet-ski gone awry!
6/30/2004 - Today we're on our final day of location shooting for a while.
Yesterday the jet ski incident went perfectly, and today we are in
the "trailer park" where Sean's parents live (playing it to be Wasaga Beach,
although we're not really in Wasaga Beach--which is in cottage country north
about 90 minutes north of Toronto--but we are shooting near a beach!!)
7/01/2004 - 409 has a lot to do with the aftermath of 407/408....
7/06/2004 - I just got back from Vancouver, and paid a visit to set this
morning and there was a bunch of the cast there but the scene they were
shooting focussed on Liberty--at the end of the take instead of saying what
they were supposed to say the cast burst into singing "Happy Birthday" to
Sarah!
7/11/2004 - I'm pretty sure that Jake Epstein will be in the building, because
he plays a key role in 411/412, but he may be too tied up filming to do the
chat this time.
p.s. Tomorrow is the final day shooting Episodes 409 and 410, and we get to
use the outdoor hot tub for the second time (I think the first time was in
404!!)
7/18/2004 - ...And yes, Miriam has her braces off, and yes Caitlin WILL be
back this season...
We're continuing to shoot episodes 411/412 of Degrassi
7/25/2004 - It was funny on Friday-- we were having a read-through of 413 and
416 (for various scheduling reasons we are shooting those two episodes
together before we shoot 414/415) and before the read-through got underway we
were talking about how successful the mall tours are being so far. Sarah was
there with her luggage because she was going directly from the read-through to
the airport, so Ryan and the rest of the cast were ribbing her that maybe this
good thing wouldn't last and maybe no-one would show up at her mall tour, and
that she shouldn't feel TOO bad if no-one did--it was quite funny! Then
yesterday night we got a call from our Associate Producer Nicole Hamilton who
went with Sarah and Danny to Texas--and it sounds like this was one of the
most successful mall events yet, so Sarah will be very happy--and can be part
of ribbing the next two actors who head off!!!!
8/08/2004 - Yes there is going to be a new character named Danny... he is very
funny and he is Liberty's brother--he gets JT into some trouble!!
Since we're on hiatus I'll have a bit more time to give a few hints about
Season 4 this week.
8/09/2004 - Now, let's see what can I tell you today, ok in 405 there is a
carwash scene with a lot of the cast washing cars to raise money for the
Spirit Squad uniforms, and the Downtown Sasquatch plays a song there, and lots
of spraying each other with water and hoses, very fun!! But with Paige sick,
what is Spinner up to???
8/09/2004 - We are trying in every episode to mention Heather Sinclair one way
or another! But will we ever show her, or even part of her?????
And Kid Elrick is mentioned a lot too.....
8/16/2004 - Was just music-spotting the scene in 409 where Emma and Ellie and
Sean and Jay are together at Wasaga Beach--some good stuff there--a bit
emotional too!!
8/17/2004 - Hmmmm... so some of you think that Emma wouldn't ever be with Jay
for more than a minute??? Well, well, well. Interesting.
8/17/2004 - And sorry SullyFan I'm afraid you'll be disappointed this year...
Sully was never part of the main cast and won't be playing any big part in
Season 4...
8/18/2004 - Now, the writers have complained to me that my hints about this
season are giving away far too much and so spoiling the season. So I won't be
giving any more comments on the Season 4 stories, sorry.
8/22/2004 - Actually no, the Season 2 extended theme was a different approach,
and it is over three minutes long. That is not the Season 4 theme. The new
Season 4 theme is exactly the same length as the Season 3 theme, and it is
still Whatever It Takes, but it is produced differently, a much more powerful
sound and a different singer with NO choir. It takes a couple of listens to
get used to it and then I think you'll be hooked...
8/25/2004 - There is a new possibility for scheduling Degrassi on CTV, but it is not official yet. What it would be is Tuesday September 7th would still be the premiere for 401/402 (new year new look new Paige), but then there might be a pre-empt on September 14th BUT we might then make up for that by running double episodes for the next two weeks, i.e. 403 and 404 on September 21 and 405 and 406 on September 28... after then things would return to normal. Of course for the hour-long and the double episodes the start time would be 8:00 Eastern time, but then when we return to our normal schedule it would be 8:30pm (but always on Tuesdays)!
I'm trying to get the new promo pics up on the Fan Pages as soon as possible, the hamsters are spinning in their cages to make it happen as we speak!
This Sunday at an undisclosed location somewhere in the free world we will have a screening of some episodes from the new season for Degrassi cast and crew. Those are always fun because it is the first time most will have seen the shows since they were originally filmed, and so much develops and changes after that. We're still deciding exactly what to show, maybe 401/402 and possibly 407 and 408 even though they aren't completely finished yet (in fact a group of us will be spending all day today completing the sound mix and sound design and music scoring for them) but they are key episodes...
8/25/2004 - Everyone signed a Happy Birthday card for Stacey today, and instead of a cake she was presented with a whole bunch of cupcakes that spelled out Happy Birthday Stacey, and then Stacey walked around the office giving cupcakes to everyone!!!
The hamsters are working towards getting the promo pictures up on Friday...
8/27/2004 - I just don't know if the promo pics will be up today or not... the person who coordinates it is in Seattle for this weekend's mall event...
meanwhile we're working around the clock for two reasons (1) it has now been confirmed that on September 7, 21 and 28 CTV will run TWO new episodes of Degrassi (we'll be pre-empted on the 14th for a Canadian Idol special), and (2) there is a possibility that we might be able to give you a sneak peak at Instant Star. I can't give any details now, but we are feverishly working to get the first two episodes as ready as possible (which is a real trick because we weren't scheduled to have them ready till January)!!! I would be so happy if it does happen that we could give you a sneak peak because the show is looking fantastic!!!
8/28/2004 - At the cast and crew screening tomorrow we'll have a barbeque first then show four episodes... originally we were going to show the first four, but there has been so much interest in 407 and 408 that we've decided to show 401/402, 407 and 408...
I've spent the last few evenings in the recording studio with Alexz Johnson and our music producer Dave Ogilvie working on the songs for Instant Star. Finalizing the mixes for the songs in the first two Instant Star episodes has been a priority (particularly if CTV really does decide to show sneak peaks at these two episodes)(I hope they do!), but also working on the songs for 105 and 106 which we start shooting right after Labour Day (those of you in the U.S. call it Labor Day) has been important... meanwhile of course we have been shooting 414 (Secret Part 1) and 415 (Secret Part 2) which I can't tell you about because of course it's a Secret!!!!! I can say though that we aren't able to hold the cast and crew screening in the gym set like we normally do, because it's all dressed up for the shooting of Secret, so we'e doing the screening in the mall set (but of course the barbeque will be outside in our backlot!!
8/29/2004 - OK, in answer to a question, I'll try to make a very long story short: 25 years ago my wife Linda Schuyler had been a junior high school teacher, and I met her for the first time when she same into my office when I was a junior entertainment lawyer. I gave her some help in buying the rights to a small book called Ida Makes a Movie, because she and her then partner Kit Hood wanted to make a short film about it. They made the film and then the CBC decided to licence it, and asked her to produce a few more like it. Then when CBC wanted to air all these short films together they wanted a name for the series. Linda had shot the films mostly at a longtime friend of hers (Bruce Mackey) who lived on De Grassi Street, and the films were about kids who lived nearby each other, so Linda said let's call the series The Kids of Degrassi Street. Then as the kids started growing up the series changed its name to Degrassi Junior High, then Degrassi High, and now of course Degrassi: The Next generation. Bruce Mackey died a few years ago, but last year a group of us worked with the City of Toronto to change the name of the park on De Grassi Street, and set up some plaques, so it is now called Bruce Mackey Park!!!
8/30/2004 - Just got the birthday card for Stacey from PNUT013, we'll pass it on to her, looks great, thanks!!!
8/30/2004 - The screening yesterday went very well, everyone cheered at 401/402 (and they loved the new version of the theme song) and you couldn't hear a pin drop during 407 and 408, it was very emotional for everyone. We held the screening in the Mall set and that worked great, pretty much everyone was there including the Instant Star cast. Cassie and Jake G were still in Seattle but I chatted with their parents.
After the screening I went back to the recording studio where we'e working on songs with Alexz Johnson for Instant Star--it is becoming more certain that there will be some kind of sneak peak at Instant Star, probably on Wednesday September 15th on CTV!!!
Meanwhile though I can't believe that in 8 days time you will all be seeing 401/401 Ghost in the Machine on CTV!!!
9/01/2004 - A couple of notes: first, for those who haven't read their dmails from the Mod we are scheduling a Degrassi.tv system upgrade for tomorrow, Thursday, September 2, 2004. Degrassi.tv will be down for approximately 12 hrs (8:30AM-8:30PM, Eastern Standard Time). You won't notice any changes really as a result, just that hopefully the site performance during the peak hours of operation will improve significantly (so it shouldn't get slow or run into servlet errors).
Also there was a little piece on Instant Star in ETalk which confirmed that CTV will run a sneak peak of Instant Star on September 15th right after Canadian Idol--but we're still working feverishly on getting two episodes ready, so I hope we make it in time!!!!
They also apparently ran a couple of ads during Canadian Idol which I haven't seen (the ads I mean; I saw Canadian Idol because Linda and I were there, sitting across the aisle from Andrea and Sarah), but this means the pressure is really on us to deliver in time for 9:00pm Eastern on the 15th!!!! (We haven't even had a sound mix of the episodes yet**worry, worry**!!)
I cannot wait to see the new season, ESPECIALLY Time Stands Still.
I got this information from the Degrassi yahoo!Group, DegrassiTNGHO. I've seen it a few place and thought I'd post it here for reference. This info can also be found here.
