Live-action movie?
I haven't seen this posted here yet, so...

Death Note is supposedly going to be made into a live-action movie. I'm not quite sure how reputable the sources are, but according to here:

Source: A high-ranking person from Toei publicity department
Staff: Unknown
Subject: Live-action movie
Company: Toei
Other: Unknown

There's been some discussion on 2ch about it, and there has been no proof to the contrary that I have seen. (I think there may have been some mentions of an anime there too, but I'm a bit more skeptical about that.)

I haven't been able to find any more information than that, though. :X

Well, it's a bit dark/too high on the death theme(well,not only that, but maybe while dealing with ethics as well?) to be an Anime, maybe? Yes, there are plenty of dark, somber Animes out there but for instance, look at Psychometrer Eiji or MPD Psycho: they were made into live-action TV series, and not Animes.

Considering how much opposition there is to an anime series, I'd actually be surprised that they'd make any kind of series or movie out of it...but that would be neat if it wound up being true!

Hopefully, it'd just be of the first arc :D

I never understood why there was so much opposition to an anime series... just because it's so complex, and mostly internal? I mean, I've seen much darker series turned into anime, so I never really saw what the problem was.

Because of the themes of the series, the lack of a true hero, the fact that kids brough Death Notes to school and started writing their classmates names in them...it's recognized as a good series, but one that leaves a lot of people feeling uncomfortable.

It's not as if writing a name in a fake Death Note is going to do anything, though. I mean, it's better that they let it out that way than beinging knives to school, you know? Plus, there are far more violent shows out there.

I guess I can sort of understand why they'd think like that, though.

It is better than a knife, but still rather heavy, wishing that you could kill a classmate for what was probably in all reality a fairly trivial offense.

I think it's also just because there is no real good guy in this! The protagonist certainly isn't, and L, Mello and Near are hardly pillars of virtue either.

Yeah, but it's a lot more realistic than saying that someone is always going to be either obviously good or obviously bad. There's already been a lot of stories like that, so if that's what they're looking for, they don't have to look very far.

Plus, there is Raito's dad, I guess. And Aizawa's pretty go-justice, too.

The US is a lot more tolerant when it comes to violence in the media that pretty much anywhere else--chosing to be prudish on sex instead.

Hmmm. It would actually be great if it's done nicely :) They should let the fans approve of the actors, though xD (Well, no, I'm just kidding; but it would be horrific if they decided to cast someone according to the actors' popularity just to give it hype - not that DN needs any though :P)

but how would they END it?! with L's death?! Or maybe not even the Light universe (or even the Taro universe) but something else...?

I'm not believing or disbelieving yet...just hoping...and hoping it'll be good.

The guy disclosing this information (I think he's claiming to be on the production team, or have close connections to the production team, or something - he might be making it all up, but this is the internet, so we can't yet determine one way or the other yet) said that it will not have Mello and Near. But I believe he also said that there will be two parts to the movie; I'm not sure if the entire thing will be sans M and N, or if it's just the first part, but eh. :X

As others have mentioned, I would actually prefer that to any offshoot chance of an anime series. Plus, it would be interesting to see characters like "L" and Raito in a more realistic portrayal.

Truth be told: My fangirl instincts might go ballistic if this ever becomes a reality.

It would be interesting how they deal with Ryuuk and the shinigami... although finding someone to be Light Yagami a.k.a Mr Handosme and stuff... I have serious doubts... I would preffer anime, OVAs, movie or whatever that resenbles the original...

Che! Who needs live action when we can get anime. I personally can't WAIT til it becomes an anime! It'll be better than any crappy acted live action (I've already decided that it's probably fake source saying theyll even make one... these rumours happen alot).

*blink* Why is anime intrinsically better than live-action? I personally think that Death Note would work better as live-action; the character designs are more realistic to begin with.

And no, Raito is not the hero. He's the protagonist, but by no means a hero in the literary sense. ^^;;
