I'm contemplating what shelf system I want to use. Either Container Store ELFA, Ikea's dirigent, or just plain nail in the wall shelves.
I have a huge bookcase from ikea bookcase
That is a god send, but need some long shelves to get stuff on the wall and off my desk.
I stumbled upon a bunch of images I said as inspiration for craft rooms, which made my choice even more difficult...

Anyone have any expirence with any shelving? Pro/con to any of these setups?

*EDIT: A great link, though about scrapbooking, for organizing craft areas/rooms. http://scrapbooking.about.com/od/gettingorganized/*

Holy organization batman! I like the natural lighting in the one with the round table... but does their TV have no plug?

The first one looks like a craft store, or someone who hopefully makes their living with all that stuff. If not, they're a hoarder!! Plus, needs natural light to feel nice.

What are you gonna do?

I know, I'm like, holy crapola, they must have a million dollars or something.

I'm leaning towards the ikea shelves, since they can support a lot of weight, not as much as elfa, but I dont have a ton of money. The only thing is they have an industrial look I dont like, but since I'm ADD I can chnage it all the time, haha.

I have the Elfa system that looks the most similar to the first photo. I like it because its very versatile- if I ever needed to move out of my house they are very easy to uninstall/reinstall, or I can reconfigure their heights, etc.

The only downside is that because they are simply plain flat shelves that extend across most of the wall it is very easy for them to become disorganized, and believe me, mine have! I'm a really horrible person to use as an example because I tend to let things fall into a comfortable chaos, though if you are someone who is willing to invest in some of the other peripheral items like boxes/baskets/etc. then I think they would be very good for keeping things organized.

From the website, it looks like the IKEA Dirigent shelving system is quite similar, so I would compare prices on that to the Elfa, and go with the cheaper one. Though, as something to consider: as far as I know, Elfa makes different types of brackets to put into the vertical mounts- and I have the heavy duty ones to support my book-laden shelves. It looks like the IKEA ones are the less-reinforced kind, so if you're planning on putting heavy heavy stuff on the shelves you might go with the Elfa.

hah, this was sort of a sketchy comment, hope you get something useful out of it ;)

I like the third photo with the round table. I like it because everything is at eye level or below.

The only problem I have with all of the photos is the wire shelves/drawers. I've just had too many things fall between the cracks or get stuck in the holes. I like plastic drawers because you can pull out the whole thing and use it as a tray. If anything spills or it gets dusty, just rinse it out in the sink.

things fall between the cracks is one con thing,
then 2ndly the fact that you'd see any sort of disorganisation
and 3rdly too many open shelves will cause your items getting dusty.
so i think the best solution for shelving things is keeping them
in half transparent boxes like in the above row onb the first pic.
