FAQ
What do you do in these 100 communities?
You sign up to write 100 pieces of fiction about a specific topic: a general fandom, a specific character or romantic pairing, etc. These stories can vary wildly in length. The minimum length is 100 words, and you can make any of them be as long as you'd like over that.
What do I do with the prompts?
The prompt table you see in the community information shows you every prompt you'll need to cover with your signup, as well as the five freebie slots you get. These are not words you have to include in the story, words that have to be spoken by characters, or anything like that. They simply have to serve as some kind of inspiration, as obvious or oblique as you'd like. The prompts table (and this community concept) comes from
fanfic100 and other inspired-by communities,
au100 and
crossovers100.
So, what's the hook for this community?
It's mostly similar to
fanfic100: you sign up to write whatever you want about one topic. With this one, however, you don't sign up as a solo person. Instead, you sign up as a writing team. The team could be two partners, or it could be a whole group of friends who want to tackle a topic.
Do we have to co-write every story?
Nope! Given a sample two-person team, you could each write 50, or you could write all 100 together, or you could each take 33 and then tackle the last 34 as co-written fics... whatever works for you. If you're a person who likes to work alone but is scared of signing up for 100 prompts, we hope this makes it a little less scary. And if you're a person (like your mods) who enjoys co-writing to no end, then this is an excuse to do exactly that.
How do we post our stories?
At some point, every story should be posted in this community. This can be your main posting point, you can repost things here, or you can link to where you've posted stories in a team member's journal, a shared journal, a web page, etc. Not only can you share/link to multiple stories in one post, we highly encourage you to do so.
The important thing: somewhere — the location doesn't matter — you need to have a link list of all the prompts your team has completed. We've provided table code for you in the userinfo, or you can just write out each prompt name and link it to the story as you work your way through the list. You'll set up this post before you apply for your claim. (It doesn't have to be fancy, you can edit it later... we just need a page URL.) That way, we can link to that page when we list all the claims, and it makes it really easy for people to check out the stories you've written. Trust us: it's handy.
Do I have to work through the prompts in order?
Nope! Feel free to work on whatever's inspiring you that moment.
Do I have to tie the prompts together?
Nope! They can all be stand-alones.
Can I tie the prompts together?
Absolutely. If you have an idea for a series, go for it. You could only tie some of them together, even, and have the rest be standalones. Hell, write everything in Middle English and post it on a web page that has "Greensleeves" looping in the background, if you want. All we do is provide the prompts, keep track of who's writing what, and link to it. Beyond that, you're free to do whatever.
Except I have to follow the posting format, right?
Well, right. Please post stories with something pretty close to this:
Author Name(s):
Fandom:
Character/Pairing/Season/Book: (if you signed up for one of these categories beyond general fandom)
Title:
Rating:
Word Count:
Spoilers Through:
Author's Notes:
<lj-cut text="Title of Story">
You can add whatever you want, but please try to include all these, especially the information about your signup and the spoilers. Not everyone has equal access, especially from country to country. Just say something like "Through the end of 'The Parting of the Ways' or 'Covers all of Half-Blood Prince.'"
Once we've signed up, what's the deadline?
There is none. If we notice nothing's been posted on your claim in a while, we might ask you if you're still interested in completing it, or if it's better if it's freed up for a new group.
What do I do when we've finished our claim?
Post a note to that effect here and experience the awe of the masses!
