Wet winter
St.Petersburg, Russia, January 8, 2005, as seen from the top of St.Isaac's Cathedral (the tallest building in the city's historic part.)
The triple dome is Izmailov Infantry Regiment Cathedral (early 19th century.)

Back in the 1989 USSR, I was guiding an american tour group around Kiev. Once we were passing the gray five-story building at Vladimirskaya 33, I told them that it was the tallest building in the city. Everyone was wondering how could it be so? The answer was simple: "it's the KGB headquarters, even from the first floor you can see Siberia!"

Gorgeous. Thank you. I keep a small bank of photos as travel inspiration, and this one made it in, easy. Hope you don't mind.

Go ahead. As soon as you don't sell it, use it as you wish :)

I like its appearance far away, its blue triple dome nicely finishing some streets' perspective. But I have to admit that I don't really like it from a distance shorter than one mile :)

Correction: this cathedral is not the tallest one :) St.Peter's & Paul Fortress has the tallest belltower that was built about a hundred years earlier. (DB)

Yes Gaya and DB, nice to see you both here, but can you make it to the top of St.Peter and Paul's? I seriously doubt it, while there is a special tourist gallery on St.Isaac's dome :)
