I'm not totally sure how all this works, with copyright issues, and such.

Help, please! I've just reacquainted myself with this story and wondered if anyone else had read it fairly recently? I'm slightly confused by the flashback which comes straight after the scene in the pub towards the end of the story. Either I've *misunderstood* the whole scene, or I'm streets ahead of the author and I've completely understood everything.....Or maybe it's been deliberately written so that it's open to interpretation...... Anyway, I'd be interested (and grateful) to hear what other people - anyone - made of this scene (or the whole story). Thanks!

Fic Rec - Tiger by the Tail by LS/Action of the Tiger by EPS

Title: Tiger by the Tail
Author: LS

Zine: Not in a zine
Available: Proslib CD (search under story title to find)
Short review:
Tiger by the Tail is actually a gen story, but I was totally able to read it as "pre-slash" - it didn't hurt that I'd read the slash sequel (Action of the Tiger by EPS) first! Actually, I think I enjoyed the "gen" story almost more than the slash sequel - there's some lovely partner worry, and h/c to be going on with, and even if the lads haven't realised it yet, it was perfectly clear to me as the reader that they were deeply bound to each other.
Action of the Tiger swings immediately into slash territory though, following straight on from Tiger by the Tail. It's angsty and action-y, and interesting, and if I thought the lads were maybe a little soppy at times the story made it reasonably easy to skim over with a quick wince! (I just can't see them calling each other "lover", though I know other people are perfectly happy with that!) There's a few continuity niggles too, but again I was able to ignore them - it's lovely and long too, so there was space to get over them... *g*
There's an alternative gen sequel too - "Bull by the Horns" by LS - which is also on the CD. I've not read that one yet, and might not, because I want the prequel resolved into slash, but then again, I did enjoy Tiger by the Tail so...
So - has anyone else read any of these stories? What did you think?! *g*

Letters from Bodie and Doyle

I’ve just read Two Plain Brown Envelopes by Rob. (There is also a sequel: Sequel to....)
Cowley thinks that Bodie and Doyle are dead and he opens their envelopes with the letters they have written to everyone who is important in their lifes - to be opened after their death.
I guess there are some stories where such letters are mentioned. Is it already fanon? I don’t remember something like that in the show, or am I wrong?
Now in Two Plain Brown Envelopes there are also mentioned two letters - from Bodie to Doyle, and from Doyle to Bodie. But for Cowley thinks they both are dead – and he didn’t open them – we don’t get to know the content of the letters. And I’m a bit disappointed!
(And maybe even some of us who don’t write stories normally could join – because those letters are supposed to be written by Bodie and Doyle, and neither of them is a writer. )
How would such a letter look like? What do you think?

Zine: Cat Tales
So... this is a story, comprised of 13 non-stand-alone short stories which have become chapters in the zine, wherein Ray Doyle turns out to have a touch of the magics about him, and regularly turns into a cat called Beelzy... I read one or two of the stories online, and found them quite amusing once I'd wiggled into my don't-take-this-too-seriously hat, but...

When I read this story a few years ago it struck me as being a bit 'different' from the norm....it had a certain kind of sweetness about it, not sickly sick, but a wistful kind of sweetness....and it was gentle and sad. And in turn I was touched by Bodie's generosity, then his jealousy.....

Strange! Last week I read this story, and I thought that there are still and always surprises!
It’s extremely romantic – If that’s not romantic, I don’t know…
Bodie is somewhere in Africa, – and he has a bad fever. His companions are forced to leave him alone, alhough they think that he’s dying. "I know, Rick...but nobody should die alone like this. Not even blokes like us."
Now guess who or what saves his life, and what the ‚Missing Piece‘ is meant to be…?
I’ve found it on rec50:

And the remark there fits perfect:
„Sometimes reality is totally overrated...“

Zine: Heroes 2
Review:
Beasts of Burden is the only Pros story in the multifandom zine "Heroes 2", which means that not many people might have read it/be able to get hold of it, but I figured that shouldn't mean that it's not worth reviewing/reccing...
The non-spoiler-y rec bit is that although it seems at first to be a fairly straight-forward plot/story, even in relatively few pages (32, but with quite large type) the author manages to weave several sub-plots and some very interesting twists and turns without actually losing me by being over-plotty with it... And it doesn't stick with looking deeply into just one character either - we find out more about Doyle, then Bodie, and then Cowley, all through it, and by the end I wasn't just thinking oh, good plot, I was thinking about how it fitted in with their personalities, and the way they behaved in different eps, and how that fitted in with the story - which I always like in a fic. A thinky bit... *g*
It's not written perfectly, though it's fine - there's the odd Americanism-type twist of phrase, and the bizare s'what type punctuation, and even the odd typo, but it was all interesting and twist-y enough to keep me reading anyway - it's worth ignoring to find out what happens!
I actually wanted this to be a longer fic - I'm sure there could be a great novel-length story around everything that was going on... *g*
Has anyone else read this one?! What did you think? Was it "different" for you? *g*
( The spoiler-y bit... )

Obviously all Pros stories are unique and individual and all, but lately I've read a couple of stories that have seemed somehow... different. I'm not sure if it's the plot, or the premise it's built on being slightly unexpected, or if it's just that they don't fit as easily or closely with my versions of the lads, which is what makes the story seem extra "different", but it's something... Something that makes me sit up and go huh at the end of it, and think about it a bit longer...
Any idea what I mean? Anyone fancy posting recs for a story or two that's made them go huh, and think about it a bit longer...? *g*
And I shall start the ball rolling with a post up above... *g*

Just read this tonight, and I'm all happy-in-the-glow somehow, so I thought I'd better share it! This story was lovely! I really liked it! If you have any interest at all in AU Doyle-type/Bodie-type slash, based on other roles they've played, then do go and read it now!
Rachid is based, of course, on MS's character in "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" - which movie/screenplay was actually written by Brian Clemens, and contains the wise words: "Trust in god - but tie your camel first"! Now where have we heard that before?! More importantly, it also contains MS as a swashbuckling sailor from the exotic Far East - and in the story by LS he meets a character who looks remarkably like Bodie, and makes me believe even more happily in reincarnation...
I read it all the way through in a sort of mock-Rachid accent, without being thrown into the modern world once, and LS also managed the trick of making me care for these characters, where I normally would be reading un-B/un-D with a sort of tolerance. So yeay!
Has anyone else read it and liked it? Hated it? Anything in between..? *g*

Lately, I've read a number of stories that fall into the realm of "unbalanced relationships", sometimes subtly, with just an occasional "thought" by a character, sometimes as the main theme of the story.
After finding the detailed thoughts people had about how Bodie and Doyle were acting in such stories, I wonder if and how the feelings they come away with influence their own view of the Bodie and Doyle they see in fanfiction.
Are you able to shake off any story and see the lads as you used to again, when watching an episode? Do you dislike one or the other more, when you previously didn't? Do you see scenes on the show in a different light?
If Doyle was a seemingly heartless bastard in one story, do you find it easy to see Bodie in that role in the next story and go with what each author presents?
Or do you seek out stories that jive with your view and stop reading when a story takes a turn that you can't see your Bodie or Doyle or Cowley taking?
For me, after a particularly unsettling story that(doesn't mean I disliked the story, just that things happened in it that aren't easy to shake, or that the Bodie and Doyle in it aren't at all like I perceive them in the show) I find myself watching an episode or two, to get things back into perspective, before getting back to reading.

We talked about suitable songs, but I decided I didn't want to order yet another Bodie & Doyle vid (don't shoot me, I *love* Bodie/Doyle vids!) - I wanted something about the women, something that would highlight their often under-rated role in the series. I knew it would be difficult to do - there are plenty of women in The Professionals, but finding the right song and the sequences to fit that song posed a considerable challenge. I'm sure
I chose the Eurythmics "Sisters are doing it for themselves", with only a sketchy idea of how it could be done and gave

So - could definitely do with some help for this one. Anyone else up for a Pros-y challenge for the weekend? Titles and authors and time periods of historical Prosfic..?

( A thought about Kathy Keegan fic )
Anyway - I decided to start today by doing something useful, so I've managed to gather together an as-complete-as-currently-possible list of all Kathy Keegan's Pros fic over at Palelyloitering.com. I've not read them all, and they don't all have links to fic pages about them yet, but they're there! Of course the odds are high that it's not a complete list at all, which leads me to a request or two... or three *g*
1. Does anyone know of any Kathy Keegan Pros fic that's not on the list?
2. Someone asked me to rec a KK fic - I couldn't! Has anyone got any Kathy Keegan fics that they really like?
3. Of course I'm hoping to have complete lists of fic for as many Pros authors as I possibly can - that's half the point of Palelyloitering after all - and I have done it for some other authors, but... any requests for who I should concentrate on next? First person to respond... *g*

Hide & Seek
"Bodie, where the fuck are you?"
Doyle scanned Amberley's spacious grounds.
"Come on, mate. Where're you hiding?"
Agents and coppers buzzed about the place like vengeful bees, hustling villains into custody. Doyle ignored them. He had a different mission.
He searched the orchard, the hedgerows, followed an ancient stone wall as if it were the road to El Dorado.
Yet he sought a very different treasure.
Then he spied a hand framed in the gazebo doorway.
"Bodie!"
And discovered his partner bloodied, but breathing. A small mercy.
"Thought I'd lost you, mate."
"Nah," Bodie whispered, smiling. "Found is more like."
