hello all.
I'm coming to Chicago Oct. 6. I'm arriving at the Union Station at 08.20 and will be there until 17.00 that day until my next train leaves.
Any suggestions of where I could go, what I could do? I'm going to have a mountain backpack on me, so that might limit my flexibility...

There's a new community that you should check out: ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) venue_info, the Venue Information Project. Like the name says, it's an attempt to gather as much information as we can about venues all over the world.
Some venues have websites, and some don't, but almost never do venues tell you the information that you really want to know when you're preparing to stand in line for a show for five hours: Where can I go to use the restroom while standing in line all day? Is there cheap but tasty food nearby? What's the nearest transit stop? If I'm driving, where can I park, and how much can I expect it to cost? Is the venue easy to find (like a giant arena) or is it a tiny club tucked into a back alley?
If you go to a show or have gone to shows in the past, share what you know about the venue with other people. And maybe the next time you go to a show, you'll find it a little easier to weather the long wait in line!
We'd love anything you guys have to offer about Chicago venues, so head over there and check it out, join, and post!

One of my favorite bands called the 88 will be playing before the White Sox vs Blue Jays game this Wednesday September 10 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chi at 6:30pmish. I am so jealous that I can't be there myself but I would hate for anyone else to miss them. They're so so so good. I found out about them cos they were that band that played in the opening credits of "You, Me, and Dupree."
I'm wondering if i'll be able to watch them online when they appear earlier at 8am on WGN Morning News. Just in case, could someone DVR it and post the video on line? pretty please? i'll be your best best best friend.

 This Sunday's benefit concert for the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation is a very important event for all of us. First and foremost, it will help people to find an early detection test for this devastating disease, and secondly, it will demonstrate the strength of the Chicago music community. There is going to be a lot of media coverage for this event. Several radio and television stations, in addition to newspapers will be in attendance. Please, if you are able, come and support the Rolfe Foundation, and what we all believe in: the cultural importance of Chicago's singer/songwriters and original bands. This concert will hopefully the first of a series of benefit concerts to feature local musicians geared towards helping local charities and foundations. With your help and support, they will continue to get bigger and better! Please join myself and the rest of the Chicago Acoustic Underground for a night of incredible performers gathering together for a great cause. The benefit is this Sunday night, August 10th, 2008, at the Green Dolphin Street. |

This Friday is 'The Worlds Biggest Block Party' or something, I've never been, and you have to be 21+ to go.
Thing is, I really want to see Ben Kweller who will be there.
Tickets are being sold at Fifth Third banks, so here's my question :
Do I get carded at FIfth Third, at the gates of the show, or both? I mean, once I have a ticket and get it, that's it, there's no more carding right?
