Child care
Hi, all. My wife and I are looking for someone to take care of our son while she's in class (not full days 6 hrs will likely be max time) this coming Fall (and Spring, for that matter). We're not interested in traditional day-care - just in-home situations. Stay-at-home (grand)parents, etc. willing to look after one more.
He'll be a year old in August.
Something of note: we are a vegetarian family, and while you don't have to be vegetarian to take care of him, you just have to respect our standpoint and not "sneak" him meat and such.
So, if you or someone you know does this, please let me know.

Free: closet doors?
Put these on craigslist and freecycle as well. I have 3 of the ones pictured below, I guess you can use them for a closet door or something, previous owners left them behind. They are in fine shape. They are around 78" high and about 12" wide. Click link for full picture. Email ruuree at iol dot ie or post here, thanks :)

Dermatologist
Can you recommend a good dermatologist in the area? Right now I'm interested in taking care of some little things like spider veins in my legs and broken capillaries in my cheeks, but if anyone has any Botox experience I'd like to hear about that too.

Good Lawyer?
My wife was involved in a car accident a shade under two weeks ago. The other driver was at fault, and we've been considering getting a Lawyer for the claims process. So I figured I would ask all of you out there in LJland if you've had any good experiences with local lawyers with any sort of similar case?
I mean, I know I could just call Robert Vaughan and have his cronies beat up the other Insurance Company, but I figured hearing about other people's first-hand experiences would be just as good:)

Looking for anything that I can...
My thanks to kaitl for redirecting me here. If you saw my post on uiuc, sorry that you're seeing it twice...
First of all, let me give a brief introduction. My name is the same as my user name, and I'm a Human Resource Management and English Creative Writing major (double degree, so two separate bachelors) at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.
So I know, why am I posting here? My wife is going to law school come August. And we were all set to go to one school, and then UIUC's Law School came strongly into the picture and all in all is sitting fairly even with where we were planning on going.
And that's where my post comes in. See, we really know nothing about the area. All we know are some of the things we found online, soooo...
If there's anything that you could tell us that might help out: 1) Apartment complexes? We've got a cat, so pet friendly. 1br/1bth at least, preferably something not slummy, semi-decent, no roommates (if possible). Close to the university or on the busline. 2) The job market? I'm graduating in August, I have no connections in Illinois. Places that are good, places that hire, good leads, anything. I'm a retail background guy, and I'm very much a people person and I get along with anyone. Seriously, anyone. And I'm not afraid to flip burgers for a few months while I work my way up. 3) Things to do? I'm into music (guitarist/songwriter), art, writing/poetry, outdoorsy stuff. I'm trying to get back into athletics and working out and would be up for rec teams. So like, nature trails, outdoorsy stuff, what's there for fun? Concerts? Shows? Venues? 4) What's Illinois really like? Conservative, liberal, farm, city, atmosphere of the town, lifestyle, transportation, real cost of living, etc.
I know that the memories here are fairly extensive, and I'll be combing through them, but any and all direct points that people can give me would be extraordinarily helpful, seeing I've got a lot to sort through and minimal time to do it in...
Thanks everyone. And I hate to pressure a response, but I'm sorta in need of this information within the next, oh, 24 hours? Its one of those things that's coming right down to the wire...

Take My Stuff!
There are a bunch of good items (many of which are in very good shape,
many of which aren't) at my house in Champaign. As I am not in Champaign
anymore, I don't have access to them; but I want them out of the house
ASAP. So, if you would like any of these, please give my mother (Margie)
a call at 377-4554; they will be given away on Wednesday between 5 and
8pm:
Everything's gone. It took six minutes. Behold the awful majesty of the Craigslist Locusts!

Let's revisit the topic of 4th and University
I posted a few years ago asking the community's opinion on the intersection of 4th and University (in Champaign). Seeing as another accident just occurred (everyone seems to be OK), I figured that we can revisit this topic.
My opinion: I'm tired of hearing screeching tires nearly every day.

weddings?
I'm looking for a place to have a wedding. I don't want to spend a ton, but I do want to have it catered. I don't have local relatives so we can't DIY a lot of stuff like location or food. Any recommendations on a hotel banquet room (or other location) that would do a decent job of weddings? Place we can get married on a Sunday morning, since we don't go to church? Someplace for next March, so it can't be outside. Any comments on the Round Barn or other local hotels?

I have 2 of these, link the ones in the link below except dark brown I think. We had a full size boxspring in them but it looks like they can be adjusted to probably fit a twin bed also. Bambi in the backyard
I hope nobody ever needs this information, but just in case....
don't ever end up with a full grown deer in your fenced backyard in the middle of Champaign!
Shocked the heck out of me when we went out to enjoy the lovely evening last night and a 5ft deer comes leaping through the yard. I live near the intersection of Prospect and Kirby, and this is the second one I've seen in the last few years. I was told another one was taken in Scott Park last week.
Poor thing ended up smacking itself against my fence in a panic, knocking itself down. Fortunately, after I ran to the house to make some phone calls, he was able to get up on all fours and wander aimlessly around. I was scared to open the gates hoping he'd find his own way out thinking he'd bound across a busy street and cause a major accident. Fortunately, he didn't appear to be gravely injured or in pain.
My question is....does anybody know what in the world you're supposed to do in this situation? I must have made 10 phone calls from everything from the non-emergency phone number for the police, to wildlife rescue to Vet. Med. and there seems to be no chain of command.
I was offered 3 alternatives by those I spoke with. Pay someone $100 to come out and put it down and haul away the carcass, have the local police shoot it and then find a way to deal with the body myself or just let it wander away on its' own.
Seeing as it was near midnight and traffic had slowed down, I went with the open gate option hoping he'd wander away when he felt strong enough. Evidently he did since there was no sign of him this morning, but it sure seems like the city should have some way to deal with these problems without putting the citizens at risk. Isn't that what we pay some of our tax money for, anyway?

Smart Fortwo
So apparently somebody who works on the South Quad (or at least near it) owns one of these beautiful Smart Fortwos, which while not amazing in terms of gas mileage, is better by leaps and bounds in terms of helping to relieve congestion and parking issues.
Anyone know who was able to get their hands on this baby?

Question about finding someone
I was hit by a car while bicycling Monday afternoon (on Neil and Washington in Champaign). I want to thank the woman who helped me, but I don't know her name. Has anyone else been in this situation and have any idea as to what I should do to go about finding and thanking her? (I'm sorry if this post doesn't make much sense, I'm a little out of it.)
