ulfilias: New Film Geek
Hi There,
Just found this group...I'm in Huntingdon rather than Cambridge, but at trying to get out and be more sociable - Hence i've been at the Calling a lot more recently....I am a bit of a film / home cinema nut....My DVD collection link is bellow and includes almost anything...I'm fairly happy to lend as well...So long as things come back in the way they were lent, yada yada
I do have a bit of a home cinema, it has 5 official seats, however I think we've had 8-9 by using the floor space....I'd give details on my web site with it on, but to be honest its rather out of date and i need to take some new photos - Maybe later.

i_am_marky: Film Club

I shall be hosting film club at mine (190, Campkin Road) tomorrow (Thursday 3rd Jan)! The theme shall be writer/director Shane Meadows who is a recent(ish) discovery for me. His films are low-budget British movies mostly filmed on location in the North and portray Shane's own experiences living in modern Britain. Very powerful stuff. Starting around 8pm with his 2004 film Dead Man's Shoes. A tale surrounding the love one man has for his mentally challenged brother. And the violent revenge for the bullying he received from a bunch of drug addicts. And followed up by his 2006 portrayal of the Skinhead culture under Thatcher's Britain, This Is England. A tale focusing on an easily influenced young boy and the older skinheads he starts hanging out with in the early 80s. Thu, Nov. 1st, 2007, 08:54 am
i_am_marky: Film Club!

To keep the resurrection alive I shall be hosting Film Club this evening at my place (190, Campkin Road, CB4 2LH). Due to it being the day after halloween it seems only appropriate to do some good old horror. Starting at 8pm the Ferrara classic The Driller Killer in the way it should be before the re-make is released next year. Second we have a much newer film in the form of See No Evil, a 'sicktastic' slasher film starring Kane from WWE. Come. Enjoy. Good! Tue, Sep. 25th, 2007, 02:42 pm
i_am_marky:

In a galliant effort to resurrect the Camgoth Film Club I will be hosting this Thursday at 190, Campkin Road (CB4 2LH). On an Italian theme this week we will be starting with the Fulci classic Zombie Flesh Eaters at 8pm closely followed by Lenzi's Deep River Savages which pre-dates Cannibal Holocaust & Cannibal Ferox. lovelyoliver:

I've already posted this on my journal but for completeness sake I'll post it here as well. Camgoth film club will lurch from the grave this Thursday at 8pm. The venue is The House of Hell (9 Leys Avenue) and the theme of the night will be mindless sadism in the form of a Rob Zombie double bill featuring House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, two excellent splatterpunk films which are certainly not for the faint-hearted. Any and all are welcome. Tue, Sep. 4th, 2007, 11:46 am
drpyrojames: History and Resurrection

For the first time in years scy11a and I are childless. (Granny has taken them away for a Suffolk Beach Holiday) We thought that in the interest of actually trying to see some of you lot, we would attempt a one off filmclub resurrection, showing in no particular order and attempting to characterise FilmClub over the years: A History of Violence ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399146/) and Alien Resurrection ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118583/) EDIT That'd be on this Thursday, the 6th, at the Forge! Re-EDIT That'd now be not at the Forge, but abandoned due to other developing commitments. Apologies to anyone who was planning to come and hasn't responded as yet. Thu, Jun. 14th, 2007, 07:16 pm
belaroo: Anyone seen 'the brotherhood of the wolf'?
It's a fabulous film, french and almost as good as Pan's Labyrinth in it's twists and turns. And it's based on a true story! It's called Le Pacte des loups in French.
We bought a copy having rented it first from LoveFilm - I would thoroughly reccomend it - it gets 7/10 on imdb.

Lamenting the no moreness of the Film Club.

surje: Weds 29 Nov 2115 - "Pan's Labyrinth" @ Arts

On a wednesday again, the latest by Guillermo del Toro who has the possibility of regaining his form from his first film "cronos", which was subsequently diluted by offerings such as hellboy and blade2. Pan's Labyrinth (15) Director: Guillermo Toro Origin: Spain Year: 2006 Duration: 119 Starring: Ariadna Gil, Maribel Verdu, Doug Jones, Ivana Baquero, Sergi Lopez A fairytale for adults inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya and rooted, like THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE, in the context of war, this is del Toro’s most accomplished work in his own opinion. scy11a: Filmclub Returns

Yes! With or without Pyro, Film Club will be hosted in Conington this Thursday. However, due to single parenthood and ten weeks of sleep deprivation, I shall only be showing one film, but it's a Film4 "Films to See Before you Die". Repo Man : "A punk rock, science fiction b-movie comedy of the highest order!" Theme tune by Iggy Pop and wonderful quotable lines such as "I'm going to ask you a few questions. Since time is short and you may lie, I'm going to have to torture you." and "It happens sometimes. People just explode. Natural causes."In fact, it's so good, I'll watch it on my own even if nobody else turns up (and I promise Eliziam will be in bed even if M:Alice is still up). Mon, Nov. 13th, 2006, 10:58 pm

tobykenobi: Film Club 24th August

Reminder for this Thursday: French history lessonLa Reine MargotThe massacre on St.Bartholomew's night (1572) is the background for an impressive family story embedded in intrigue, desire, sexual excess, murder, sacrifice, love and hate... Only time for one film I'm afraid as this is 2h45, but it's worth it (and I expect we'll have a break 1/2 way through). This will be at tobykenobi and belaroo's in Ely (lifts from Cambridge available). Wed, Aug. 16th, 2006, 11:18 am

surje: [Outing] "Renaissance" @ Arts (Thurs 17 Aug 2115)

I will book tickets if you reply here before weds 16th at 12 noon. Meet in the bar at 2045? "Merging SIN CITY’s pioneering animation with a more European, melancholic sensibility, RENAISSANCE is one of the most visually arresting films of the year. Paris, 2054. Ilona Tasueiv (Garai), a young and brilliant researcher, is kidnapped. Avalon, a giant multinational corporation and her employer, wants her found at any cost. Dellenbach (Pryce), Avalon's CEO, has requested that Officer Bartholomew Karas (Craig), a hostage retrieval specialist and the most controversial cop in the force, be in charge of the case. A chiaroscuro vision of 21st-century noir, RENAISSANCE employs groundbreaking digital techniques to combine the modified movements of live actors with monochrome graphic design. Quintessential Parisian landmarks - the Metro, the Eiffel Tower, the Sacré-Coeur - coexist with new graftings in a bittersweet, brilliant vision." Wed, Aug. 9th, 2006, 08:54 am
robinbloke: Film Club 10th August 2006

elise: Film club tonight - fucked up chicks in fucked up love affairs

Sorry for the late notice. Tonight's film club will be at the House of Hell again (call me on 07830 122456 for directions) - showing: The Piano - It is the mid-nineteenth century. Ada is a mute who has a young daughter, Flora. In an arranged marriage she leaves her native Scotland accompanied by her daughter and her beloved piano. Life in the rugged forests of New Zealand's South Island is not all she may have imagined and nor is her relationship with her new husband Stewart. She suffers torment and loss when Stewart sells her piano to a neighbour, George. Ada learns from George that she may earn back her piano by giving him piano lessons, but only with certain other conditions attached. At first Ada despises George but slowly their relationship is transformed and this propels them into a dire situation. Sylvia - Talented but plagued by her owns demons Sylvia Plath's early relationship with husband and fellow poet, Ted Hughes, is dominated by Ted's ambition and success. In the early years of their marriage Sylvia lacks inspiration and increasingly senses Ted's infidelity. The unspoken question is whether Ted's extra-marital affairs are the result of Sylvia's own insecurities or whether Sylvia's deepening depression is exacerbated by her husbands philandering. It is only towards the end, when they are separated, that Sylvia is able to truly explore the dark depths of her soul and write the searingly brilliant poetry that earned her fame. casilda: This weeks films

I am posting on behalf of lovelyoliver and deliberateblank Thursday's filmclub will be Primer and Paycheck. I'm guessing the theme is engineers and time...... Time: 20:00 onwards Location : lovelyoliver and deliberateblank, the house of hell Primer"At night and on weekends, four men in a suburban garage have built a cottage industry of error-checking devices. But, they know that there is something more. There is some idea, some mechanism, some accidental side effect that is standing between them and a pure leap of innovation. And so, through trial and error they are building the device that is missing most. However, two of these men find the device and immediately realize that it is too valuable to market. The limit of their trust in each other is strained when they are faced with the question, If you always want what you can't have, what do you want when you can have anything?" Paycheck"Jennings (Ben Afleck) is the best reverse-engineer in the business. He is hired by clients to take apart other companies technologies and find out how they work. He is hired to do a special job, against the advice of some of his associates. When the job is completed, all memory of what he has been working on is erased from his mind. That's when his problem really start to begin. He is hunted for something he has no recollection of doing and has only a little time to work it out. He has sent himself 19 seemingly unconnected objects, before his memory was wiped, to allow him to put the puzzle together and discover just what has gone on and what he has done. But the authorities are after him and time is very quickly running out." |
