Hobb news through LJ
I just realized last night that this is something a lot of people probably don't know about: two news feeds about Robin Hobb that you can add to your friends list here at Livejournal.
First, there's the syndicated feed from her Myspace blog which is pretty neat especially if you don't have a myspace account. You can add it to your flist here.
And then there's thePlenty.net newsfeed, which picks the RSS from my front page news which you can add here.
I hope this is useful information to someone. :)

Icons (and other goodies)
Is everyone busy reading Renegade's Magic or what's this silence? ;)

I come to show you some brand new icons I've recently added to the icons database at theplenty.net. I've also got new bookmarks up and the quotes database is working again. :) But, here's a few icons as an example:

If there was a Liveship movie...
I'm sorry to start another "who would you cast?" topic, but I have to say...

AnnaSophia Robb IS Malta. o_O

She is, to a T, exactly how I imagined Malta Vestrit to look. Only with blonde hair. She has a slightly snooty look to her, which works perfectly.

A few snaps of her. Even the hairstyle is how I imagined Malta's at the start of Liveships! )

Help!
Hi there everyone.

I'm trying to find a good, clear picture of the Fool's tattoo so I can make a texture of it. Does anyone have/have seen one?

Newbieness...
Hey everyone! I'm new, but I come bearing gifts: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/36505267/ hope you guys like it. There's so little fan art of the Farseer world around.

I've been a fan of Robin Hobb's for a long time, I've read the Assassin books a million times, the Tawny Man a few times and currently reading the Liveship ones ( since I'm a poor student I had to wait for the local library to get them)

nice to meet you all!

How old is Fitz in the beginning of Assassin's Quest? I tend to lose track of "book time" when I'm reading so I really have no idea. @_@

Robin Hobb wiki/who's who
Shamelessly spamming your friends list by x-posting this to [info]a_fool_too_late, [info]buckkeep, [info]fitz_is_stupid and [info]hobblings.

I know that during many years, there's been lots of talk about a need for the kind of character list that would link characters together and help people who are looking for quick info like "who was Ekke again" or "how were Wintrow and Althea related". I finally decided to start the project, and chose a "weapon" I hope many are familiar with, the MediaWiki script which is also used at *the* Wikipedia. I'm quite new to the script, only having contributed to one small wiki in the past, so I'm still learning things about it as we speak. However, I wanted to let you all know about it at this point, so I can hear suggestions and improve things towards something that would serve as many needs as possibly. So, without further ado:

PlentyWiki

I'm a bit paranoid about spammers and other vermin, and having experienced getting hacked through scripts before, I've made registeration necessary for those who want to add and edit articles. It's really easy to register though, you don't need to give any trivial info like your shoe size or subscribe to any newsletters. ;) It's just a username-email address-password procedure. I hope it doesn't discourage anyone from participating. :)

So, anyway, I was just poking around at the Robin Hobb gallery at John Howe's webpage. When I came across something that I found interesting.
The caption under this picture: The Liveship Traders: Volume 2 - The Mad Ship: Althea and Paragon.

I had always assumed that it was Amber standing with Paragon in that picture. Not Althea. I guess because of the blonde hair? Doesn't Althea have black hair? I'm pretty sure that all the Vestrits have dark hair and dark eyes? With the possible exception of Ronica - I think it came from Ephron.

Found this at Whedonesque
Found this at Whedonesque

Fan fiction is unworthy of you. Don't do it.
Author Robin Hobb (Meghan Lindholm) crushes fan fiction and slash writers, but her rant "does not include professional authors writing...Buffy the Vampire Slayer stories."

"Romances are invented, gender identities changed, fetishes indulged and endings are altered. It’s not flattery...fan fiction becomes personal masturbation fantasy in which the fan reader is interacting with the writer’s character. That isn’t healthy for anyone."

In contrast, Joss Whedon has openly encouraged his fans to "Write fan fic."

X-posted.

Vote for Robin!
Vote for Robin Hobb's work!
You can vote in the 2006 Locus Magazine's Poll here!

Please note that you do NOT have to be a subsciber of the magazine but you HAVE to submit your name and email address. Don't worry about filling every field, you can leave them blank (and you do NOT have to fill that terrible survey at the end of it either! :D)
Here's what you should look for ;):

- Shaman's Crossing is listed in the best fantasy novel category
- The Fair Folk (Kaye) is listed in the best anthology category (Megan's Grace Notes is in it.)
- Michael Whelan and Stephen Youll are both listed in best artist category. John Howe isn't listed (!!!) but you can add his name in the free field.
