Stop Alito

Attention Arizona:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The confirmation hearings for Samuel Alito are scheduled to begin on Monday, January 9th.  Our very own State Senator Jon Kyle is on the Judiciary Committee for the nomination and should know how you feel about this nomination.  Below are the his Phoenix and Washington DC contact information.

This Guy is scary and we need your help to stop him.    Get out there and make your voice heard.  We are not in the minority. It is time to do away with apathy and let Samuel Alito, President Bush, the Judiciary Committee, and your senators know No on Alito!

Take a few minutes now to save us from a lifetime of injustice.

Here are some facts about Alito's record that you might want to remind Jon Kyle of:

*  Alito wrote the Third Circuit decision that Congress did not have the power to require state governments to comply with the Family Medical leave Act.  Former justices O'Conner and Rehnquist supported FMLA and replacing them with Roberts and Alito who do not could leave millions of state and local employees without protection.

* As a Circuit Judge Alito advocated making it easier for conservative judges to dismiss sexual harassment cases before they could go before a jury.  His past dissents have set higher and higher hurdles for victims to jump before bringing their case before a jury.  Sexual Harassment is an basic Human Rights issue.

* Alito argued to uphold the illegal strip search of a woman and her 10 year old daughter who were at home when the police arrived with a search warrant which only named one person, who was male.  Although, this action by the police was a clear violation of the fourth amendment which ensures freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, Alito still chose to support the police decision to violate persons without a warrant.

* Alito believes that Congress should not have the power to pass a law restricting the transfer or possession of machine guns because congress did not make a clear link between machine guns, crime and interstate commerce.

* When Alito has actually been quoted for bragging about his work against abortion and affirmative action.  He prides himself on his conservative stance against women and minorities. In 1991 Alito argued that under his interpretation of the Constitution, a state can require women to notify their husbands before they are allowed to have an abortion.
