News Limited
As seen on Media Watch, this website has a series of News Limited documents that seem to imply some meddling by the Murdoch media empire in Australian politics. I haven't read through them yet though so I don't know about how genuine they are.

After I read some I'll report back! :)

Interesting. I have little doubt that News Ltd does try to influence Australian politics, but has anyone else noticed that over the past few weeks they've started to lean a little more to the left?

Apparently Rupert thinks Latham's going to get in and wants to get on his good side...

I was kind of appalled that News Limited gleefully does that stuff, and didn't even deny it. But anyway - there was talk that Latham met up and had dinner with Rupert at one stage. I wonder what the price for Rupert's support would be? The Beazley/backflip on Iraq thing was almost certainly the result of pressure from Rupert.

Feeling uncomfortable about this really just highlights another false assumption of the young-left movement.

The Media should be fair and unbiased in it's reporting of 'news'.

Rupert Murdoch is a successful man who clawed his way to the top of the corporate pile; in our system any influence he has gained (perceived or otherwise) is well deserved.

If he can influence political outcomes to his own benefit, why shouldn't he?
There is no law against it, the Free Press is exactly that, free to report in anyway they choose. If a journalist does not like the way Murdoch and co. do things, they are free to work else where.
