| Nice words only! |
[09 Oct 2008|02:29pm] |
In the spirit of the "it's wrong to use 'gay,' 'bitch,' and 'retard'" movement, I propose that "motherfucker" be removed from our lexicon of insults.
There are some people out there who enjoy fucking their mothers and pose no threat to society. For example, the son may be, say, 25 and gainfully employed and his mom may have gone through menopause. So, they're consenting adults and don't make children with birth defects. Hard to see how they're hurting anyone. Ergo, their lifestyle choices deserve just as much respect as the LGBT community gets.
And while we're at it, we need to quit using the word "shit" to express anger and the phrase "pissed off" to express frustration.
There are people out there who enjoy golden showers and covering their faces with cellophane wrap and letting their partner take a dump on them. Who are we to belittle these people's identities by turning what they love the most into an insult.
We really do have a long ways to go, people.

Anti-"That's sooooooooooooooooo gay" campaign released.
Honestly, I can't recall any anti-drugs, anti-peer pressure, anti-whatever ads really having an impact on me as a youngin' all those many moons ago, so I don't really expect this campaign to have any kind of impact. But it's still nice to see out there.
edit: And since I love Jay Smooth, here's his thing about "No Homo," which is just a derivative of "That's so gay."

| GET IT?! IT WAS THE OTHER KIND OF RAPE! HAW! |
[09 Oct 2008|12:06am] |
Anyone think that South Park's first episode of new season doing the whole "LUCAS AND SPIELBERG RAPED INDIANA JONES LOOK AN EVERYONE IS IMAGINING THEM RAPING INDIANA JONES LIKE REAL RAPE YOU KNOW GUYS YOU KNOW" as a bit too ham-fisted stupid and a case of them just trying too hard? I watched it going, "ugh this isn't even that amusing and it sounds like an excuse to end up on Jezebel or something."
Then again I didn't find the whole buck-tooth straw-hat "CHING CHONG BING BONG" thing a case of them trying too hard to be offensive. So maybe I'm okay with cartoon racism but not okay with cartoon rape fantasies. WHO KNOWS.

| Unconscious sexism. |
[07 Oct 2008|12:58am] |
I was lately thinking about how, as an obvious advocate for Deconstructing the Gender Binary (TM), I am also reasonably susceptible to unconscious douchebaggery. I almost always notice it right away and kick it, and it doesn't become an externally projected problem, but I was wondering what other's experiences were with this.
For example: I find myself, whenever seeing a father alone with his kids, or a single father gushing about his active role in parenting, I tend to go "Holy shit. That's awesome." Not because I'm in denial about good fatherhood existing -- it's just something you don't commonly see around here. This ties in, also, with traditional conceptions of fathers merely being providers/disciplinarians, and various other ingrained ideologies. However, I also realize that my instantaneous reactions are problematic -- both for men and women. I was being largely patronizing of Non-Shitheaded Fathers while also largely undermining and neglecting motherhood. Whoops.
I've also noticed various other people who identify as feminist who will occasionally "slip" and throw out loaded misogynistic terms when flustered. I personally no longer have this particular problem -- words like "cunt" never generate when I'm angered with a woman -- but it tooks years of deliberate un-conditioning.
The examples go on.
So: does anyone else here harbor similar problems on occasion? Has it ever become problematic for you, both in your personal life or when trying to internally reconcile your politics? Has there been a marked improvement in your attitudes when you've noticed the problem?
All viewpoints welcome!

| Incapitation Techniques? |

Female incapacitation techniques have long been implemented by various cultures: female circumcision, foot binding, corsets and the like have been unfairly used to stifle the potential of females bearing children from men other than their husbands (although it was a suspected motive, and not necessarily based on truth).
As far as I know, there is not a culture in existence where females use incapacitation techniques on males. What I was wondering is that if castration is a sort of 'male incapacitation' forced onto other 'lesser' males (i.e. the existence of eunuchs/eunichs in Imperial China).
I'm not sure if this is exactly 'on topic', so feel free to delete it if needed.

| Are blacks exceptionally homophobic? |
[03 Oct 2008|04:43pm] |
Survey says "yes".
Smart, educated and very liberal blacks are less tolerant of homosexuals than similar whites. In fact, among downscale sectors there isn't much of a difference between whites and blacks, the difference shows up among the upscale. There isn't that much of a difference between fundamentalist blacks and whites.
There is a big difference between blacks and whites who consider themselves religious liberals; the former are far less homophobic than black fundamentalists, but note that they're about as gay friendly as white religious moderates ... The religious variables and age were powerful predictors of the variation in attitudes toward homosexuality, but race not so much (not even statistically significant). I wanted to post the charts above because I don't necessarily trust these sorts of slap-dash regressions, but my quick & dirty checks imply that race is a less powerful predictor than religion and age. So given my sociological understanding of racism, the natural question then becomes whether it's really racist to be anti-homophobic, given that wanting to get rid of homophobia will disproportionately lead one to the criticism of blacks. Or maybe we can resolve this tension by finding a way to blame white people for black homophobia? Maybe via their indoctrination into Christianity?

| Bias? In MY Western media? |
[02 Oct 2008|02:08pm] |
Russia is considered a top murder capital of the world because of some BAAAAWWW propaganda "hate crimes" against the darkies.
Text: Moscow’s murder rate is nothing compared with that of Caracas or Cape Town, but the city still ranks way above other major European capitals. London, Paris, Rome, and Madrid, for instance, all had rates below 2 murders per 100,000 in 2006. The Russian capital’s homicide rate is down 15 percent this year from last, but the recent surge in hate crimes—including the deadly beating of a Tajik carpenter by a gang of youths on Valentine’s Day—suggests that the lull might be temporary. Sixty ethnically motivated killings have already happened this year, part of a sixfold increase in hate crimes committed in the city during 2007. Several of the murders have been attributed to ultranationalist skinhead groups like the “Spas,” who killed 11 people in a 2006 bombing of a multiethnic market in northern Moscow. The Russian government has finally stepped up to combat the problem, assisting migrant groups and cracking down on street gangs. Still, the continued rise in extremist attacks is worrisome. And along with migrants, journalists and other high-profile people in Moscow might also want to be a little wary in Russia—62 contract murders took place in the country in 2005, according to official statistics.
Maybe the murder rate went down because these new hate crimes served as exemplary deterrents for Muslim immigrants to stop dicking off and acting like monkeys on civilized soil?
I really wish Americans would lay off of Russia. They're the ones doing the dirty work that the rest of the Western world is too pussied out to do because of loser-centric liberalism. If they don't kill Middle-Easterners, then that's more idiots propagating Islamic bullshit and mangling little girls' genitals on kitchen tables.
Oh nevermind, we're no better. We do oppress women by encouraging bikini wear and birth control after all.
Also, hurricanes are now liable for murder.

| The Credit Crunch explained. |
[30 Sep 2008|02:30pm] |
Ok - it is brit humour week onthe antifem community.
have a look at this - an investment banker explains how and why the credit crunch happened, and what we have to do to get out of this mess.
Sorry, did somene say "what's this got to do with Feminism?"
Oh, they did. well, let me tell you folks - this clip is two men, using sophisticated comedy techniques to lampoon the present system. Although the essential outcome is to point and laugh, what they are telling us is basically true - this IS why there is a credit crisis at present. becuase of greed and stupidity really.
So, ok - the present day, male dominated banking system is a crock - it's a busted flush. However, is there a feminist analysis of what has gone wrong and a feminist solution to the problem - in other words, if women took over, how would they do things different? would it improve our pensions funds any, or would we get the same thing happen?
if you have not got any answers, never mind - just enjoy the show. It's Brit humour at it's best!

When is a relationship an actual MAN/woman relationship as opposed to a relationship with ds. For example I tend to look down my nose on people who claim to be MAN and then in the same breath say they play at Switch BDSM. Again it comes down to the fag versus the real man, I think. Of course, your relationship isn't subject to my seal of approval, but if someone points out the emperor has no clothes, getting upset just says all that much more.
This sort of thing is difficult, but necessary, to be sure.

I feel that in today's society, women use PMS as an excuse to behave appallingly, and they are almost always allowed to get away with it, if not encouraged to be rude and irritable. I think it's disgusting.

| ARE YOU HOT OR NOT? |
[28 Sep 2008|02:26am] |
This is a new post in response to the deleted post by the sock puppet lolz_kite (from Houston, Texas).
Since they decided to make a Hot or Not scoreboard, lost_kite has offered to make a new, decent scoreboard (the other one sucked--they have since deleted the femjays from it).
EDIT: This is the new picture post, as well. Remember, put "post me" in the subject if you want to be included on the hot or not scoreboard and follow the instructions below.
DO NOT vote on the new one, as we want impartial viewers from the intertubes to vote instead of us.
If you want to be in it, comment here (with "post me" in the subject line):
1) The picture you want to be used. Try choosing a headshot with makeup (if you have any ones with it--EDIT: or if you choose to regardless, this is just a guideline for consistency/fairness in ratings) for consistency; avoid things like cleavage which will bias what is basically a face contest.
EDIT: This may be a little too late, but since lost_kite asked for it, you may include an addition two pictures (3 total allowed)--one body shot and a third miscellaneous picture of your choosing.
You may fabricate the rest if you wish, but it must be included:
2) Desired username and first/last name.
3) Location (zip code if in the U.S.).
4) 50-250 CHARACTER summary.
5) Age.
EDIT: View the Hot or Not scoreboard here, as it is updated: http://scoreboards.hotornot.com/antifeminism

Have any girls or women have a hard time coming to terms with their purpose? Of course they have. And most Men have had at least some troubles coming to terms with their desires too. Society is not very open or accepting about people who are open about Man dominance and female obeying. It comes from a place deep inside. Once you have opened yourself to the thought, then you still must contend with whoever you were brought up and the friends or even just aquaintences you have had. It's all very complex and can be quite odd in the begining. Yes, definitely. Society has had such an effect on women, telling them they need to be just like men, which, of course, is denying the deepest biological and psychological essence.

i was watching Surviving History last night, and one of the tasks was for them to re-create the scold's bridle. The scold's bridle was a device used in the 16th - 18th century for women who were "scolds" (ie they consistantly nagged, used profanity, and slander) and it is described as "A scold's bridle (also the brank or branks) was a device for women, resembling an (lockable) iron muzzle or cage for the head with an iron curb projecting into the mouth and resting precariously atop the tongue. . .The tongue curb could be as gentle as a flat iron plate that passively discouraged tongue movement or as painful as a spike-festooned iron bit that punished it rather more painfully." (Wikipedia)
Here is a picture: http://www.howlingdog.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/scolds_bridle.jpg
Now this got me to thinking, do you think a modified scold's bridle would be a good idea for those times when tongues run away, are disrespectful, or engage in swearing?
Yes, a gag could certainly be used, but a lockable full head device would seem to me to get the message across much more quickly because it is a bit heavier than just a gag and the scold's bridle also locks in place.
Thoughts?

| Sarah Palin - the movie. |
[26 Sep 2008|11:24am] |
Ok - some ppl round here don't get brit humour. Can't even squeeze the 'u' in. But this take on Palin says it all.
Feminist note.: Sarah Palin is a woman going for VP. Were she a man, Mc cain would prolly skip her, but hey - she is a mom, American as apple pie and therefore is now Post Turtle of the Year.
Of course it's a feminist issue. she is only there to get women on board behind the GOP - but I reckon they picked the wrong woman.
Anyway , like I said - this one says it all. Enjoy.
http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1831461
but I would still prefer to vote for *this* Palin - given the choice. But then I'm biased! http://tlindner.macmess.org/?p=221

| Let's sterilize the poor and give deductions to the rich |
[25 Sep 2008|08:52pm] |
A friend let me know about this one...
Rep LaBruzzo (R, Metaire,LA)
The program he's considering? PAY welfare recipients to not have children, GIVE tax breaks to "wealthy families" FOR having more children. OK -- I get the issue -- but Tie the Tubes of the poor (and offer them $1000 to sweeten the pot) and GIVE MONEY to Wealthy people who want MORE kids?
Remember -- aside from the class implications, we're talking Louisiana here -- and this has SERIOUS racial implications as well.
Find a solution to the problem? sure. Let's define the problem first. But offering $1000 to welfare recipients to be sterilized and tax breaks to the wealthy to have *more* kids? At the very best, this is a blatantly political ploy. At worst? let's figure that out...
