Welcome
While ranting about "Sunset Song" the other day, [info]green_amber and I were, um, I'm not sure if inspired is the word, but anyway, we came up with an idea for a community and thus anonymous_scots is born!

I'm not quite sure what we're going to do with it yet, so any ideas, additions to the interests/anti-interests etc are welcome.

Odd Americans who have a Scotish ancestor 14 generations back whcih they think makes them scotish. Who then proceed to wibble on about their tartan for hours.

Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything.

Sean Connery forever wibbling on about Scotish nationalism when he lives in the Bahamas.

Can you keep them a little shorter please?

Oh, and you'd better join now!

Well you could shorten it to just Sean Connery, but then youd have to put the reason in the FAQ or people will be asking about it all the time.

He's in the paper today, talking about how he pays British taxes. Which of course makes all the difference. Personally I put up with the British weather, which I think is a far greater imposition.

It was reading that this morning which brought it to mind. 3 million in tax since 1997 eh? given how much he must be pulling in from films that strikes me as somewhat less than the 40 percent band.

Done. I put in haggis too. As an interest and an anti-interest.

OK OK I'm here already!

You could add "Ewen McGregor but only with really short hair as in Trainspotting and DEFINITELY not as dopey ponce like in Moulin Rouge" to the Interests..

Anti-intersts should also include "any food with oatmeal in it, except cranachan, which is nice" and "Canadians who stop you at busstops in Vancouver and on discovering you come from Glasgow, ask you if you know Jimmy Paterson in Arran", "tartan tat shops", "cashemere jumper shops", the Royal Mile, any Scottish "comedy" drama, indeed anything by BBC Scotland which replaces a network schedule, curling, bowls, and that infommercial for hypothermia they used to show all the bleeding time. Ohand the Alternative History O Grade syllabus. And canals.

Me, traumatised??

Oh and Victor and Barry :-(

Could have Robert Carlyle, Alan Cumming, Joe McFadden, and The Lady Door in real interests (where's that Sneerpout?)

Interests can only have 5 words or less, but I could stick it in the userinfo.

Yes to all the others, although I quite like oatmeal. Especially covered in chocolate and with some cherries and formed into bars.

Isn't Sneerpout en route to Belfast?

Yeh so do I actually - it's kind of a private joke between me and my ex - we were having this convrsation once about how discussions of Scots culture always end up revolving round edible things with oatmeal in them - porridge, cranachan - then someone else said, "yes, and cullen skink!" and we stared at him.. he was trying so hard to join in..

NO ONE who didn't grow up in Scotland actaully knows what cullen skink is -- maybe it should be on the interests list I actually rather like it. I suppose you should put Edinburgh, Glsgowe and Aberdeen there as well..

I've had to put Aberdeen in the anti-interests list too though, on principle.

I've compromised and put a few things in the interests list too. ;)

Oh yeh, I like cashmere. I just hate the tatty shops.

Could we put the fudge factory shop into interets? mm. And Plaisir de Chocolat.

I liked Moulin Rouge; I like oatmeal bread (though hate porridge); and I used to live on the Royal Mile. Perhaps I should leave.

Oh yes: and I should be getting a kilt shortly, if all goes to plan.

It's not so much Moulin Rouge as Ewan MacGregor in Moulin Rouge. And oatmeal is in the interests lists as well as I like it too, although also not porridge. Ooh, I forgot to put porridge in either list.

Oh, and do stay!
