Can someone elaborate a little on the differences between living in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti? (Feel free to talk about any differences you like.)

Elbow Room: The Jarrod Jones Experience [Jul. 24th, 2008|11:53 am]

damonp
Tonight:
MoFo Karaoke as always.
Presumably Jarrod will be singing "Melt With You" for the 400th time as a going away present for us all...

Fri:
Jarrod's going away party - Mazinga, Koyoto Cutout and Annie Palmer with Rock and Rummage thrown in for good measure
Your faithful soundguy Damon will play all Jarrod's favorite music all night... on actual records!
For those of you who don't know him personally hes that hunky I-talian beefcake everyone loves.
http://www.myspace.com/indiekidsinlove
Of course like EVERYONE who leaves, he'll be back... But lets all pretend we're sending him off for real. It'll make him feel better.

Sat:
Overhead Space w/ Invader, Boywife and Bad Indians
Ypsitastic! We dredged the basements and house parties of the surrounding area and bring to you this sampler...
This night has nothing to do with Jarrod, although I'm certain he'll be there doling out hugs.

Banana Milk [Jul. 24th, 2008|05:19 am]

abmoit
Has anyone seen any banana milk (preferably Nesquik Buncha Banana) in stock anywhere? I have only found this drink twice in the past 13 years, and I would love to taste its wonderful banana-ey goodness once again.

bicycle repair [Jul. 23rd, 2008|02:34 pm]

itshipstertime
Hello, Arbor-Ypsi bike riders!

Which is the best shop for repairs to older bikes? I've tried Campus Student Bike Shop on Maynard and am interested in other options.

Alternately, if you are a bicycle enthusiast who would like to help me fix a vintage 1970s Raleigh Sprite, you would be richly rewarded with goods or money.

Good places to get an alignment done on your car? [Jul. 23rd, 2008|12:53 pm]

captainblack
I searched back about 400 entries because I was *sure* we'd discussed car repair enough in the past that alignment places would have been mentioned... but I found nothing, so... Here is another info request!

Anyone have any good experiences or warnings about alignment places hereabouts?

Thanks in advance!

Cats need new home ASAP [Jul. 20th, 2008|11:17 pm]

trefenwyd
Hello-

Sorry to post this here, but I'm starting to get a little desperate...

I took in two Bengals and a grey/white cat from a friend with the intention of re-homing them for her. I've been searching, and everything I seem to find falls through. I'm not willing to send them to an adoption center or the humane society; I just want them in new and permanent homes. These cats have been moved from home to home five times in the last year, and they need someplace to go.

I would keep them, but I have four cats in my home as it is. The two Bengals are sisters, and if possible I'd like to send them together. The grey/white is unrelated, obviously, but has lived with them all her life.

Bengals - spayed, up to date on shots (no paperwork to prove it), NOT declawed, a little over a year old.

Grey/white - ditto, except that she's just over four years old.

PLEASE understand what Bengals are when/if you respond. They are vocal and active cats that need someone who understands this!

Comments about the vet clinic affiliated with PetSmart? [Jul. 18th, 2008|12:23 pm]

We have taken our pets to Ann Arbor Animal Hospital for the last 12 years. They're fine, and I like some of the vet staff there, but I wouldn't be averse to seeing another vet practice.

Well, last month I had to board my cat at Petsmart's pet hotel, and due to a vaccination issue that had to be handled on the spot, she was seen at Banfield's, the vet clinic affiliated with PetSmart. As a result, my cat has a file started there. It's brought up the question of whether to seek future vet care for her there.

Does anyone have any feedback on the place?

Edited to Add: I suppose since we're on the topic and other members of the community may be interested in vets generally, this is as good a time as any for people to post general vet recommendations. In my case, I'm particularly interested in whether to make this Banfield's visit a one-time-only or not, but I know I'm not the only person with a pet here.

Elbow Room: Update on tonights show [Jul. 18th, 2008|09:36 am]

damonp
So Incisor unfortunately had to drop off the bill for tonight, however we replaced it with a real treat.
Suffix will start the night with a post rocky guitar symphony followed by John Frum with their angular, eclectic instrumental aggression and finally Chris Bathgate and friends doing an impromptu shoegazey set... should be fun.

the WRAP center needs volunteers! [Jul. 17th, 2008|04:44 pm]

spfaerie
For those of you who don't know, the WRAP (Washtenaw Rainbow Action Project) Center is located on Braun Court in Kerrytown right next to Common Language & the Aut Bar! It's a resource center for the LGBTQ community that includes a library, local info as well many different group meetings.
It's non-profit organization that relies on volunteers to keep the building open during the day.. and our volunteer base is rather slim. Without someone in the office, the building remains closed and therefor continues to be virtually unknown. Please help our gay community and spread the word!
Visit http://www.wrap-up.org/ for more info.

WE ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR OUTFEST 2008!

The WRAP Resource Center is proudly hosting the 14th annual OutFest on Saturday, September 13, 2008 @ 5pm in Ann Arbor's Kerrytown district. OutFest will feature an Information Fair featuring LGBT groups and queer and ally business supporters, great food and drink specials at the \'aut\BAR, a silent auction and raffle with great prizes, kid space with games, face painting, and moon tent, and an evening of dancing in the street with old and new friends.
Please click the “Volunteer” button in the main window for more information.

IceScapes? [Jul. 16th, 2008|03:25 pm]

Hey, does anyone know if the IceScapes place on Washtenaw (near Tio's) is out of business? I'm assuming so, since the phone number is disconnected, and nobody was there at 11:05 a.m. today even though their posted hours say they open at 11 a.m.

Too bad, if so. They had some interesting ices and other frozen treats.

BIKE TRAILS [Jul. 14th, 2008|04:47 pm]

pearlstreetdiva
I am planning a visit to ypsi and was interested in bringing my bike and bike trailer for my son. I have an instep trailer so it doesnt have fancy metal rims which equals me being a nervous wreck riding on busy roads.

so my question to you folk is, if i rode from ypsi to ann arbor what percentage of that would have to be on busy roads without sidewalks? i have done this ride in the past along packard and recall there being a few places where there is no sidewalk just a dirt trail in the grass. i cant remember if it would be wide enough for the trailer and am hoping you will tell me they have since put in sidewalks. thanks!
