ummmm, a crossover!... kinda So, I know people in AIYA seem to enjoy Phoenix Wright. Also, some of you like Ouran, maybe specifically love or hate the Zuka Club. Now, guess where I'm going with this...? ( Takarazuka Phoenix Wright anyone? ) | | Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 | 11:37 am [courei]

AIYA! Spring quarter Due to some mess ups we will be meeting in Biology 212. I'm not clear on details but it seems that the comm building is full up most of the quarter. Sorry that it's sudden and stuff. We'll put up notes Tuesday April 1st as a reminder. Sorry again. Hope everyone is enjoying Sakuracon! | | Thursday, March 6th, 2008 | 9:38 am [thekitsune]

Cosplay You know, it occured to me. Next week is dead week, which is the last week we meet this month (spring starts in April). Sakura-Con is the last weekend of this month.
Is there going to be a "cosplay day" like usual? Because if so, the week we meet before Sakura-Con is next week...

Western Font Photo Oh hey, I forgot to mention this among all the randomness and what not: a reporter from the western front came and asked questions about the club and they wanted to get a picture too if possible, so they suggested that for next weeks meeting people cosplay if they are interested in being in the picture. Anyone who is interested is welcome to cosplay or other wise represent aiya! (the tshirts from last year are pretty awesome).
anyway, that's all I forgot. Everyone also remember that this year's tshirt submissions need to be sent to me or brought to club on Tuesday for voting.
have a great weekend, and maybe it will snow for real eh? | | Thursday, January 10th, 2008 | 3:50 pm [chobits00_freya]

New Quarter Club restarted this pervious Tuesday with a bang. excitement is high with the approach of the AUDiT. T-shirt contest entries are Due on the 5th of Feb. for viewing. and speaking of entries
SAKURA_CON NEEDS YOU!
They apparently have appsolutely no, zero, nada, nil, zilch, no entries for the 2009 Mascot contest. So they're crying out for help from the community. If you have time you might want to submit, especially if you're an artist. Winning something like this is great for your portfolio.
anyway. enough rambling. see you next week. | | Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 | 10:26 am [chobits00_freya]

Dead week movie night Dead week is movie night! We'll be watching a rotator episode and then a movie. the results from the vote on Tuesday are thus: Paprika - 9/9 The girl who lept through time - 9/8 Wild Zero - 9/6 Memories: Magnetic rose - 4 Versus - 2
After the second round of voting it was decided that we will watch Paprika by Satoshi Kon, who also made Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Paranoia Agent and Memories: Magnetic Rose.
But don't be sad! because of how well the other titles did they will of course show up for possible movies for next quarter Movie night.
on the note of Next quarter: AIYA! will be starting up bright and early with the begining of school. First meeting of the new year will be Jan. 8th.
Oh and for those of you who weren't there last night, you missed a hilarious power point presentation on the AUDiT. Thanks to Alan and his maniacal reading. For a quick summary:
Bracketed fighting with boffer weapons in which you must knock off all of your opponents strapped on targets to win and advance.
Hitting the head or groin during battles is not allowed it seems.
I hope that was straight forward enough.
hope to see you next week, and if not looking forward to seeing you in the new year. Bronwyn | | Sunday, October 14th, 2007 | 10:37 pm [marusaia]

Some Gurren Lagann crack for ya This cracked me up, so I thought I'd share it. It is silly and bizarre, and I don't know if Gainax made it themselves or someone else did, but either way it's a funny cross-over parody... points to people who can tell what show the song is from. Cut for convenience, though there aren't any spoilers that I'm aware of... it's pretty much just fluff. ( Read more... ) | | Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 | 12:53 pm [mirapira]

First meeting SO hey there people. I just wanted to let you all know that we will be meeting on the 25th for a meet and greet, new attendees and old. We'll be watching a show, talking about rules and changes from last year. I'll be addressing some questions that were raised in the surveys and we'll be accepting payment for membership as always because we want someone to sign up and win the following week's rotator slot. ^_^ Remember that rotator is limited to VHS/DVD/LaserDisc (you kids have that still?) 0.o and that you will want to choose something to watch that will raise interest in the show/ be understandable to attendees who have never seen the series before.
so that's it for now. ^_^ See you at WWU! | | Tuesday, August 14th, 2007 | 3:21 pm [chobits00_freya]

If you have any comments you would like to make on these, especially the 11/11 split questions please feel free. Thanks for your time everyone! see you next month! | | Wednesday, July 25th, 2007 | 10:00 am [chobits00_freya]

Hey Fall's a comin' Hey everyone! I hope summers are going well and that everyone is having fun! The next school year is coming up and I just wanted to update you on some things. For starters, we are still in Communications Facility Room 120! YAYZ! From 6:00-10:00, we will be meeting every Tuesday From October 2nd to December 4th. At this time it is not clear if we will be having a beginning of the year new member meet and greet like last year on the 25th, but I’ll let you know. ^_^ As for new rules this year….. I’m really sorry to say that rotator will have to be kept to licensed anime on DVD or VHS…..maybe laser disc if you really have to….. Why? The University changed user settings so that we cannot download and install any programs, codec’s, etc. This means that watching fan subbed material is nigh impossible without extra equipment. The officers from last year decided that it was too much time and effort for us, and a waste of time for members to bring in a laptop every week and trouble shoot shows so that we could watch them. I’ve also talked with a member of ATUS and have been informed that because we are a not an “educational” meeting, that there is no reason for them to install the codec’s or programs we need, and that they refuse even to let us go back to the system of installing a program just to have it deleted when we logged off. They’re worried about the security of the university’s network and will allow no leeway. If those reasons aren’t good enough for you I can point to the slew of recent “cease and desist” orders sent to anime clubs throughout the united states and the fact that I don’t really want to deal with fighting “the man.” I’ve got classes and a job for crying out loud! ; P I know that it is a shame that we can no longer watch any material that is coming out currently in Japan, but I would like to remind members that not everyone has seen everything. There are many shows that have been released state side that attendees have never seen, old and new. Not all members have been in the anime scene since the 80’s and not all members watch new shows as they are released in Japan, so there are a lot of shows - like Suzumiya Haruhi - that not everyone has seen. Rotator is a chance to bring interest to a series you love, give people a taste of a series they have never seen or heard of, and/or raise interest in a potential Marathon. So even if we can’t show digital media we can still share in something we love. Please do me a favor though, ^_^; when choosing an episode to bring interest be careful. Many people stick to the first episode paradigm, in which they believe the best episode to show when trying to interest people is episode one…. This is not necessarily true. Sometimes episode two or three is better. They tend to have less setup, are still close enough to the beginning for viewers to learn the basic premise of the plot and almost always recap what we learned in episode one, just in less time. On the other hand of rotator are the people who like showing their favorite episode. This can work well, or it can back fire; especially when club members don’t know who characters are, what their motivations are or even why they’re going on the crazy adventure in the first place. So there was my big rant on rotator slot and ATUS. So I guess that’s it until Fall. You’ll see me at info fair, I’ll be cosplaying again. ^_^ see you then! | | Monday, July 9th, 2007 | 11:54 pm [marusaia]

Japanese superhero movies... and spices?! Just a shoutout to anybody in the AIYA crew still in Bellingham, the new Satoshi Kon movie "Paprika" is coming out on Friday, July 13, at the Pickford Theater in Downtown B'ham. For those who don't remember, Satoshi Kon is the guy who directed Millennium Actress, which we watched at a movie night this last year, and has been compared to Hayao Miyazaki. I wanted to know if anybody was interested in going to see it as a group sometime this weekend (Saturday maybe?). Regardless of when, I think it's worth seeing, and I've heard a lot of good things about it. Satoshi Kon has made good stuff so far, and the art by itself looks really pretty on this one!
Remember, opening night is July 13th, this Friday. Dunno how long it's going to play though; I suspect at least a week, possibly only a week. | | Sunday, June 24th, 2007 | 2:23 am [chobits00_freya]

Having fun? so... i hope everyone is having a fun summer and all that jazz. Thank you to those members who filled out the questionaire and got it back to me. Your input is very helpful. when i have some time I may post the results (as it were).
I'm sorry to say that there are no plans for any summer aiya! showings. too many schedule and time conflicts are occuring and with the changes at the university things have become much harder.
But to the main point of my post; I have a question.
Because of the university's changes to program installation it's nigh impossible to install the codexs or players needed to show fansubs (at least, that is, without completely hacking the system, which i refuse to do).
the club has already been moving away from showing fan subs what with all of the fire clubs have been coming under lately.
It's also really annoying to carry a laptop to aiya every week and trouble shoot any player/codex/fansub issues that may arise. So finally to the question:
Is rotator not a worth while privileage for members if it is confined to US dvd released shows only?
please feel free to give your thoughts, but don't offer to let us use your laptop or someone elses or argue how we could possibly show fansubs (youtube is not an option).
Please understand that we don't feel comfortable trouble shooting on a laptop that doesn't belong to us, and trouble shooting takes up too much club time for it to really be worth it.
if the majority of reponses are that rotator would be worthless if confined to US released dvd titles then rotator would be cut and replaced with another series to be watched through the year.
I'd really love to get as much input on this as possible. I don't care if the responses are from past, current, or future club members, or from regular attendees, I just want an idea of what the club thinks.
thank you for your time. | | Wednesday, May 30th, 2007 | 9:12 pm [minako134]

community anime blog, you might say So, a bunch of us anime nerds that usually use the lunch/dinner table to ramble about this or that episode of this or that anime that just got released by the subbers... we will be split up into oblivion at the end of the year because of summer break and graduation. What will we do?! Who will we scream and yelp to about this week's episode of Death Note/Bleach/Gurren Lagann/Gintama/Naruto/RomeoxJuliet?! So we made a forum. Come and join us as we ramble and fan-tard and rant about the anime a good majority of us are watching. If a show is suggested in the 'Other Anime' forum that has enough of the members watching it and stuff, we shall add it as its own forum to be rambled about, yada yada yada. So far the list includes the shows I mentioned above. It shall be called... Viking Anime. Hope to see you there! | | Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 | 10:28 am [chobits00_freya]
