Remembrance drabbles
Title: Legacy

Juliet ignored the other wrestlers, favouring notebook and pencil. A face was appearing on the page. The same face as on every other page.

She couldn't escape it. At night, in her sleep, it watched her. While awake, it haunted her, filling her with a sense of indefinable loss.

She didn't hate the face. Not that lovely, pretty face with pointed ears. It whispered the secrets of her heart to her. But she was beginning to hate herself. She couldn't understand why she had these secrets...

The fairies hadn't realised that some things, though forgotten, will always leave a mark.

In the moonlight, Artemis slowly carved her name into the bark of the oak.

Today was the tenth anniversary. That day had triggered so many other things; the day he'd kidnapped a fairy.

His new relationship with the fairies had enabled him to regain his parents; had changed who he was; had dragged them into deadly situations - and the last time Holly hadn't escaped.

None of these things could've happened without the others. He couldn't help being grateful to Holly for giving her life so he may have these blessings.

Artemis stood in silence for two minutes, then walked away.

Oh, I loved the first one. Especially Holly's face haunting her in her sleep. Very cute, but with Juliet's hating of herself... well, that made it a scary shade darker. *loves*

The second hinted at so much story, which I hope is the plot of some story or another which you will never write, but only tell me about which you are currently working on. Only qualm was that the language/manner in which Arty says Holly gave her life could be more circumspect. I think most readers would already know what had happened, and so spelling it out cheepened it a little bit - you could have done more showing, less telling.

I think there's a lot of room for dark!(Holly/amnesiac!Juliet)... but then, I'm not really sure you could have happy!(Holly/amnesiac!Juliet). XD;

Haha, sadly no, it is nothing at all to do with any other fic that I am writing. But, grr, now you have given me a plot bunny. *goes off to find some carrots to placate it with* Yeah, I think I need to work on subtlety, because I really haven't got the hang of that yet. Either I make things totally obscure or I smash people over the head with them. ^^;;

Yay! I was beginning to get worried that you'd vanished. :3 I was hankering for a prompt so I invented a system using dice to pick a random word from my dictionary to personally challenge myself. (In case you're wondering, the word was "today". Not written a drabble yet but got an idea for it that I think is cute.)

*wonders if that's meant to be a challenge* I may not be able to write non-angst!(Juliet/Artemis), but, by Gods!, all my Jolliet is fundamentally optimistic.

*gives you lettuce and rabbit pellets* You need to play around with subtlety - work out the best force for the tone of the fic. With this one, for example, you were fitting so much story/past plot into 100 words that being explicit about Holly's death was completely unnecessary, as this was already created by the hints at everything which went on.

I had vanished - to Nelson's Bay. And I'll be gone again in a week. Lots of 'I should be having drunken parties right now, but I'd much rather read Diana Wynne Jones and scribble some fics down'. Self-prompting is a good idea, though.

Hah, not exactly. I must say that I find it weird how your Jolliet is optimistic, yet that's often my angstiest ship. Have you done the fic for our dual challenge yet though?? ;P

It wasn't so much Holly's death that I was worried about the subtlety of, but the whole thing about it being inevitable following the kidnapping, as were the other things, and that none of them could be had without the others. I did struggle with that: a lot of the time I felt the wording was too confused, so I made it clearer. Obviously too clear. :3

Hey, stop running away! *chains you to your chair* If we're going to get our Christmas fic done before Christmas, we need to hurry up and get on with it... :/
