Answers: General Questions

Who are you? Who runs this (crazy) thing?
Technically? Livejournal. Really, though, it's run by two girls: Erin ([info]letterstoyou_), a 22 year-old from around LA, and Aredhel ([info]sunk), a 21 year-old from around Detroit. Icon communities were all the rage, and we hopped on the band-wagon — three years (as of Oct '06) and almost 3000 members later, we're still around.

Will you grant me posting access/can I post icons?
Short answer: No. Long answer: No, as a rule. Admire is only for us (Erin and Aredhel) to post our icons. If so moved, we might eventually ask someone/others to join, but it hasn't happened yet. If you try and make a post here, a notification will be sent to both of us, and one of us will delete it (sometimes we'll reply with the reason, other times not).

Will you affiliate with my icon journal/comm?
More than likely, we'd love to! See our Affiliates post, and comment there. Whichever one of us sees the comment first will decide whether or not we'd like to affiliate, reply, and, if so, we'll add your lj/comm to the post. (Note: The only time we'd decline to affiliate would be if we find a specific lj/comm offensive/etc. That's not happened yet!)

I know it says I have to credit, but do I really have to?
It depends on which of us made the icons: Erin ([info]letterstoyou) requires credit for her icons; Aredhel ([info]45mph & [info]sunk) encourages credit, but does not require it.

Do you take suggestions / custom icon requests?
Sometimes. When we we feel like it, we'll mention in icon posts about taking custom requests. We're usually always open to suggestions for icon subjects/themes. Feel free to comment on any of our posts to suggest something.

Can I use your icons as bases/edit/customise them?
By default, our icons are not bases, and should not be altered in any way. However, sometimes we make very basic/plain icons, or actual bases. In those cases, we'll state that they can be altered or customised. In short: if it isn't stated by one of us that a certain batch of icons/group of icons can be edited, please don't.

What programs do you use to create the icons?
Erin uses Paint Shop Pro 7 Ann. Edition, Animation Shop, and Virtual Dub (for movies clips). Aredhel uses Adobe Photoshop versions CS and CS2.

Do you have any buttons I can link to your comm with?
Yep! Please save these to your own server (if you don't have one, Photobucket.com and Imageshack.us are great options).

Help! Your tags give me a "Sorry, one or more specified tags do not exist" error!
Recently, we realized that some people (usually free users) were having problems navigating through our icons using our tags. Livejournal has addressed this issue in their support section, and it seems that if you have problems viewing icons, try changing any "+"s in the URL to "%20"s. If you're still having problems, feel free to comment on this entry, or on the Subjects List entry.

Why are your icon posts Friends/Members Only?
We make icon posts Friends/Members Only because we've had issues with icon/image theft in the past. Locking entries is the best tool we have to guard against it in the future. It's quite easy to gain access to the entries, however: you simply need to join the community. Brush entries may or may not be locked, depending on whether or not we request credit for them.

Got a question?
If your question has not been answered here, feel free to ask it below -- either [info]letterstoyou_ or [info]sunk will reply (if the question merits an answer), and *may* add it above (or, we may not). Please run a Google search if the question isn't related to one of us, our community, or our icons (e.g., it's a question about a method/technique or program question).

How do I install the mood themes?
All mood theme zip files include a file titled "! Instructions", which contain instructions for installing mood themes. However, only Paid, Plus, and Permanent users are granted access to the tools necessary to follow the instructions and install the theme. Free/Basic users can "switch" to the Plus account type, install the theme as per the instructions, and "switch" back to the Basic account type, retaining the installed theme.
