Mod announcements
Hello all; this is your worthless and unfriendly mod, delurking for a while to pretend that I have moxious modly powers.
I'm glad to say that at nearly 250 members, we've had very little problems with this comm. I'm almost surprised, to be honest, but in a good way. As far as I've seen, everyone's been good at abiding with the rules (which is why I don't like comms that go overboard with them; makes it harder to follow them all), and I don't think there have been any flame wars.
There are a few things that I wanted to address, however, so it might be a good idea to glance over these:
Regarding introduction posts
Though things have been pretty good, I have heard a few complaints regarding introductory posts.
Introduction posts aren't required here, but they're not disallowed either. However, some people have mentioned (and I'll admit that I tend to be of this thought) that they find introduction posts which consist of only "HI!!!! I'm new!!! I like Meine Liebe!!! lol, bye!!!" to be annoying spam on their friends lists.
Yes, we know you like it. You probably wouldn't have joined the comm otherwise. The thing is, most people join communities to read about/obtain goods pertaining to the actual series, not to read about you appealing yourself to the community. It's not a bad thing; you might be able to meet new friends that way. However, that isn't what the community is for. There are others more suited for that, like
animeaddme.
I'm not saying this to make any of you that've posted intro posts before feel bad, or that you absolutely can't in the future.
Here are some suggestions, though:
Introduction posts are perfectly fine if the post also includes: fan art, fan fiction, icons, questions, or just your speculations on something in the show/manga/game (and generally something more well thought out than just "omg i think Ed's dad x Muraki-clone iz HAWT lolololzzz"(although that would be an interesting pairing). That way you're contributing something on topic to the community, and more people will likely be interested. They don't really care if you tell us all that you're never going to draw fan art for us to see.
Regarding plugging other communities here
No one has approached me on this matter yet, but I figured I'd cover it anyway.
Plugging any Meine Liebe related communites here is perfectly fine, so long as you don't do it in a manner that directly goes against any of the rules. If you have a Meine RP that you want to get members for, or if you've made a comm specifically for a certain pairing, you're more than welcome to post about it here.
Plugging non directly Meine related communities is sort of pushing it, though. If you have a comm dealing with a new manga by Kaori Yuki, or a community for similar girls dating sims like the ML games, I'll leave that up to you if you really want to plug it. It's not really a big deal; I just don't want it to get out of hand in the future.
However, plugging things like the Gakuen Alice comm or the Konjiki no Gash Bell comm just because Sakurai (Orphe) voices characters in those shows, is not allowed. (omg wut do u mean i'm being contradictory? >_>;; I'm just using examples *cough*).
And naturally, no plugging of communities that have no relation whatsoever to anything dealing with Meine Liebe.
Regarding icons/icon making
Under no circumstances will icons that use stolen fanart be tolerated. I will not hesitate toshoot first and ask questions later delete any such posts should my attention be called to them, if I have even the slightest doubt.
For the most part I don't think there have been any problems. Everyone just uses official art. It's fine if you use your own art, or fanart done by a friend and you have their permission, but far too often communities have icons using stolen fan art.
If you fail to understand why this is a problem, I suggest reading the Online Fanarts Protection. It focuses mainly on Japanese fanart, but the ideas are the same for fanartists all over the world.
In regards to doujinshi...people have more mixed opinions on using doujinshi, as doujinshi are generally paid for; others still regard it as fanart and shouldn't be used since the artists usually just price them enough to cover the materials fee they use to make the books. My suggestions: if possible, I recommend against using doujinshi for icons here. Mainly because I probably wouldn't be able to discern whether it was doujinshi or fanart and end up deleting the post anyway.
That's really all I have for now; if you have any suggestions for the community, nifty links to Meine sites (does anyone know if there is a ML DevArt club?) for me to link the comm to, complaints, want to tell me that I'm mean and I suck, feel free to comment. If you feel the need to contact me more privately, eh, dig around. I have contact info up somewhere.
