The Application Form
Application to [info]__unaffiliated is open. Anyone can join. The application is mainly to allow posters to introduce themselves to the rest of the community.

The application:

Name
Age
Gender
Location
Interests
What makes you you?
Please give us a brief overview of your life thus far, if you feel so inclined.
What are your hopes for the future, both for yourself and for the world?
Anything else about yourself that you would like to include.

For instance, my application looks like this:

Name: Andy, She of the Masculine Name.

Age: 17, for one more month.

Gender: Female

Location: Mid-Florida, the giant phallic swamp masquerading as a tropical paradise.

Interests: Mostly reading and writing, with performing arts coming in at a close second. I'm also interested in music, fencing, fashion design, rude web cartoons, flying, marine science, vikings, funny things, and pie.

What makes you you? I think that what makes me who I am is my constant search for spiritual and emotional euphoria. I look for beauty everywhere, and I see potential in everything. My great tragedy is that I am not artistic. If I was, I would never stop recreating beauty. Writing is the closest I have yet come to complete spiritual ecstasy, and music thrills me to my soul. I have made it my goal to enjoy life as much as possible, and to do everything I can to give other people the opportunity to live happily. I have never had to be told to stop and smell the roses. People are usually too busy telling me to stop smelling the roses and get back to work. Sometimes I get more than usually depressed and wangst a bit, but I tend to bounce back within a day or two. I still love the world, and humanity on the whole, despite its best attempts.

Please give us a brief overview of your life thus far, if you feel so inclined. I was born in Miami. A great deal of unfortunate things happened in the space of about five years after I was born; the airline my parents worked for folded, my house was destroyed in Hurricane Andrew, my father was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died, and I started elementary school. Following my father's death when I was 5, my mother started a relationship with a rather unusual man who had fathered five grown children, three of which were biologically his. I'm his sixth, and he is still with us now, and I admire and love him more than I can say.

My friends always thought I was odd, even when we were small, and in the years between my 6th birthday and my 11th, I settled into a routine of enhancing the real world with fantasy. It made things a little more interesting.

When I was 11, I spent the summer traveling the east USA and Canada with my parents in our RV, and had, if not the best, then the most developmental summer of my life. The fact that I still look on it fondly even though I had to have psychological therapy afterwards because of an irrational fear I picked up in Quebec speaks volumes for the experience.

I started homeschooling in 6th grade. I haven't stopped since. I became interested in eastern medicine when my mother took me to have acupuncture to help with my constant digestive discomfort. I became steadily more active in my Unitarian Universalist church, and started acting the summer I was 15. I have been writing ever since I was six, and even before that I constantly made up stories to distract me from more unpleasant aspects of life.

Two years ago, I met my best friend Saphie via a shared interest in The Lord of the Rings, and life has never quite been the same.

In December, my lesbian sister gave birth to twin boys, concieved via artificial ensemination, bringing my combined tally of nieces and nephews up to 13. I carry their picture in my wallet.

I'm going to college in the fall.

What are your hopes for the future, both for yourself and for the world? The standard peace on earth, goodwill toward men, and the end of our dependence on petroleum. Eradication of AIDS and a universal cure for cancer would be awfully nice, too. As for me, I want to travel, find that spiritual euphoria I'm looking for, develop writing skills I can be proud of, and find some way to improve the quality of life for humanity in general.

Anything else about yourself that you would like to include. I have ADHD. Most people think it explains a lot, although I have it much more under control then I used to. I'm a Unitarian Universalist, would become a vegetarian if I didn't like chicken salad so much, and like Discworld. A lot.

If you think of a question that I have clearly forgotten to add to the application, please suggest it.
