I have THREE tickets for the LAST THURSDAY performance of RENT on Broadway ever!
I originally purchased these tickets but I am unable to go. I am a die-hard Rent fan and I am hoping someone can use these:
Thursday, September 4, 2008. 8pm Seat location: section RMEZ C, row F, seats 103-105
e-mail me: Nealybus@yahoo.com
Also, I know am asking for a miracle. For the past twelve years the Broadway show Rent has had a special place in my heart. Unfortunately I was not one of those lucky people who were able to snatch up tickets to their final performance. I am a teacher and do not make a heck of a lot money. I am asking if you know anyone selling tickets for the show, after party or memorabilia please let me know. I have literally been waiting for this moment for years. I know many people are selling tickets on Ebay in the THOUSANDS and before I do that and spend a fortune I figured I would try here.
Whether Rent has changed the face of American theatre is subjective, but Rent has shaped who I am today. Twelve years ago, I would have never thought a “little musical that could” out of all things, would change everything. In a sense, I feel like I am saying goodbye to an old friend.
We begin. . .
This has taken me twelve years to formulate and now I am trying numbingly to put it into words. So this is goodbye?
Rent has played a significant part in my life. Throughout the years the Nederlander has had felt like another home to me. A place where many of my loved ones -lovers, friends, family have congregated to share in this essential story of family. My saddest part will be not taking those loved ones to experience Rent on Broadway again and sharing with them their energy and passion brought on by the show.
Rent gave me a voice. Growing up in a small community, it was hard growing up gay. Even if it wasn’t mentioned I could feel the stigma. Rent showed me acceptance just -not in who I was, but to show tolerance of other people –even if they didn’t accept me.
The family in Rent is a lot like mine. The show conveys you can shape your own family out of friendships (friendships in fact can be thicker than blood). I think the fact that the many underlying messages in the show were not just said, but believed by the youthful cast on stage.
This show reminds me how it feels to be young and be hungry for something: hungry for love, hungry for life. It reminds me of my friends and how we can all feel angry, speechless, timid and awed.
I will never be able to recount all the experiences that have shaped me, and made me think. I have taken away and internalized so many themes from each cast member, and every interpretation. We have all been frustrated at a lover, fallen in love, felt desperate, and most of all had hope in tomorrow. Thank you to every Broadway, Tour, Equity, Non-Equity crew and cast member.
THIS ONE IS FOR JONATHAN
I have been procrastinating and putting this letter off. How do you write a letter about something you have eagerly been waiting for and has touched your heart?
I received Rent as a holiday gift (my friend took her sister’s cd and put it on cassette for me). She told me, “it has these cool answering machine things and also they say “fuck” a lot. Naturally being a teenager, I wanted to hear it. I listened and realized how many levels there was to the music and ultimately the show. I finally first show the show in 1997 (I was very anti-Marcy and Sherie, as being I wanted to see the OBC). I fell in love with the show sitting up on the first row of the mezzanine. I realized the power of what baring your soul. And Jonathan did exactly that.
Since then, I have seen the show numerous times (more than I’d like to fess up to), but I don’t consider myself the typical “Rent head”. I have never seen the show for the sake of just so I could add another marker next to the amount of times I’ve seen the show. What makes this show so important is the characters. It doesn’t rely on special effects, or the majestic settings. It’s a real human piece. I’ve sat just about everywhere in the Nederlander and what drives the show is the energy that radiates off that stage. And it feeds the audience. I just want to say from the bottom of my heart thank all of you. Everyone involved have each brought a piece of them self to this piece and strengthened the bonds and themes of the show. I keep saying “it’s only a show…”, but the truth is almost twelve years later the music, themes and love still holds and I sure it will twenty years from now. Again you have truly touched a whole generation and more to come. Thanks for all the talents involved. To the final applause on Sunday night, please remember my words and remember I’ll be rooting for you.
Measure in Love With love and great support
Neal
Don’t give up the ship Even when you feel it’s sinking And you don’t know what to do Don’t give up your dream Even though you may be thinking It never will come true Life has it’s own ideas of how things come about And if you just hang in there, life is gonna work it out
Help is on the way From places you don’t know about today From friends you may not have met Yet Believe me when I say I know Help is on the way
You don’t have to know Where the path you’re on is leading You just have to walk along Dreaming as you go Asking for the things you’re needing You never can go wrong If you have faith that things are happening as they should And just believe each step you take is leading you to something good
Help is on the way From places you don’t know about today From friends you may not have met Yet Believe me when I say I know Help is on the way
So open your heart, Open your mind No matter how you’ve tried and failed Tomorrow you could turn and find that
Help is on the way From places you don’t know about today From friends you may not have met Yet Believe me when I say I know Help is on the way
