Alright, I know some of you ladies out there won't need this, but this popped up in my friends page on LJ and I thought it was a good little post for writers in general to read.

Heat, Desire and Leg Cramps: How To Write Smokin' Hot Smut

The woman posting writes in my other fandom, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I can tell you that her fic is SMOKIN'. With a capital HOT. I know that it's sometimes awkward, even as a seasoned writer, to write "romantic" scenes that aren't lame or overdone. I think Nauti is a great writer and her explanation is dead on, and is a great little read for those of you out there who may struggle with this or wish your scenes could be better.

I'd like to just get up on my soapbox for all the people who write fanfic, and say that we do what we do because we're writers. We're not "stalking" anyone, what we do is not "ridiculous" or gross, it's FICTION. If you changed the names in these stories, you'd never know they were about John Mayer. So thank you to those of you who post here, and I hope that you continue to do so, and for those of you who think we're "ridiculous", get down off you high horse, get off MSM, and go have a REAL life.
