Nearly all the source code to run the LiveJournal.com server is Open Source / Free Software (depending which label you prefer), as are most of the client apps. You can get the LiveJournal server code from the Subversion repository. If you're interested in discussing the LiveJournal code with other developers, check out the lj_dev community.
