I had way more people respond privately to their assignments than have posted in the actual game (uh, clearly). I want to point you all to that post since it was made late last night, when the cycles will turn over. EDIT: FYI I'm doing in the evening so the leadin to the deadline is convenient for most players, but it does mean you'll need to go check your message backlog in the morning and pick it out. If people would prefer to move it earlier I can also do that. :)

I'll leave it up for another 24 hours (at least) until people settle in.

Hi all!

Sorry for the delay: I got home after the drive of (literal) doom and have been dealing with a new kitten* and the Canadian income service, gosh taxes sure are fun your first year in a country.

The starting post will go up tomorrow, and your assignments will be in your message box tonight. ^______^

Day 2 means that the news sites have posted something on yesterday's accident:

INCIDENT NARRATIVE: Female juvenile was traveling south on 3100 W. Nobuyama was traveling westbound on US20/26. The juvenile failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with Nobuyama’s vehicle. The motorcycle burst into flames due to a ruptured gas tank. The juvenile was airlifted and flown to the Intermountain Burn Center at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT, where she is listed in critical condition with 3rd degree burns.

In the specifics further down the page, her age was given as 13.

With my mom, I left Idaho today for the drive back up to Canada.

We were approaching a small town in central Idaho, going east. I was looking off to the side of the road and had quite thoroughly zoned out. I heard my mom gasp just in time to look ahead and see a gigantic towering explosion of fire and black smoke erupt on the road.

As near as we could figure, the motorcyclist had run a stop sign and shot directly in front of a large SUV who was headed west. But we couldn't tell for sure; all we knew was that there had been a rush of motion on the road and then something out of a Hollywood soundstage. The blackened motorcycle, that had likely been carrying a full tank of gas, was in pieces on the road. The SUV had a giant dent in its side and the passenger was standing on the side of the road after almost tumbling free of the vehicle, clutching her dachshund and visibly shaking. The motorcyclist had skidded a ways down the road and was completely on fire.

His (or her) friends had come running over with jackets to blot the fire and water to splash it out. Probably not the ideal way to go on the last part, but, you know: ON FIRE. We were checking my cell phone and, after being astonished and relieved to see four bars, called 911.

We waited until the emergency vehicles arrived. At that point the traffic that had begun to gather as people made an impromptu barricade was directed safely around. As we passed the scene we saw either bare, charred skin or what was likely to be melted synthetic pants. Having asked my mom, there was no way it was just scuffed-up leather, unfortunately. And then my mom said she saw the driver's leg move, just barely, under all that injury and pain.

So that was day 1 of the drive.

First: there are still spots open for Mafia in my last post; I didn't want to spam and annoy people, so I figure it has been a suitable break in between ads. :)

Second: with the prompt of Olympic medal ceremonies, I was in a conversation about best national anthems and this one was far and away the top vote-getter for the the best anthem ever, whether only orchestral or with vocals. (I was one of the ones giving it a vote.)

Feel free to argue here. If you want to be WRONG.

I'm running a game of Mafia if people show interest in playing. Why should you play? Because rampant paranoia and recurring violence is top-notch fun!

Short version: in Day and Night cycles, players vote on who they're going to kill. The "winners" of this vote get killed and booted from the game. It's like super-violent Survivor, with significantly less Jeff Probst!

Players are in different factions, and everyone is trying to make their faction win... so you need to figure out just who it is you should be voting for. What are the factions and what information can you share?
