I just read Sunshine by Robin McKinley and oh my god I think all the teenage prats who think Twilight et. al are the pinnacle of teenage vampire-related fiction should have this book thrown at their heads and summarily crammed into their faces. :(
bottle_of_shine does this book a much more comprehensive review than I can muster but it kept me voluntarily awake until 3 AM, so that's saying something about the book's riveting qualities.
(I just wish there was a sequel with mad hot sex in it because seriously the tension in this book was enough to make me snap and I was cruelly baited many times!!1 :| (also, curses on the lack of fanfiction))

Today I saw an old man writing all over the concrete base of a lamppost with a piece of chalk. The jeep went by too fast for me to see what he was writing, but he had the loveliest, roundest cursive I've ever seen.
I wonder what he was writing. The weather's been so rainy lately that whatever it is probably got washed off by this afternoon.
Comic drawing continues apace, and though I'm dubious about the quality of these, they're really more for me to practice trying to get a grip on pictures that follow in sequence (ie. motion flow and funky camera angle changes) and possibly to come up with bigger variety in character designs, since I draw the same people all the goddamn time. :P

Since it's been like two months since my last creative meme, I'm making up another one!
Give me:
1. A line of dialogue.
2. A premise.
3. An object.
4. A line from a song.
And I will draw you a one-page (or more who knows) comic that I will spend no more than two hours in total on, using original characters.
Am I crazy? Oh yes.
Crazy like a fox.

Details: 1, 2.
WIPs (so you can laugh at how hilariously off-track it went): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (not a WIP so much as 'LOOK AT MY ATTEMPT AT ANIMANATOMY ;A;').
(holy fuck when was the last time I drew anything)
For a contest on deviantART. Gale and the Beast, Photoshop and a hell of a lot of gradient abuse. The characters are part of a real script called alibata/baybayin (the translator I used is here.) and the words read 'Binubuksan ko ang daan sa kadiliman.' or 'I open the path to darkness.' Well, theoretically anyway. :P My translation skills are selective.
Rough background story and art babble, ( behind the cut for your f-list's sake! )
I watched Eagle Eye with
outinspace today; twas' tons of fun, and couldn't help but remind me of Portal for reasons that are immediately obvious. :P That said, the ending was rather anticlimactic and left me with a distinct feeling of 'lol wut' XD;
I'd recommend it, and even with all the surprises revealed, I'd prolly watch it again to see what I might have missed the first time around.

why yes, that is what I wore to school today. ilu, college. as you might not be able to tell due to shitty lighting, the corset I'm wearing is a) black, b) a size smaller than the other one; i traded it in 'cause I figured I wanted something that fit a little snugger.
it took me about five seconds to remember that it's like impossible to bend from the waist when you're strapped into one of those, augh augh. I'm a chronic sloucher, so even a corset as relatively non-restrictive as this-- it's really more for show and the pretty, hardly for actual body molding-- forced me to sit up straight way more than I usually do. Augh.

rabbitprint you've been like five seconds back on LJ and you're already making me contemplate fic. fic for a fandom i've never ficced for. how does this happen.

Hahahaha, what the shit. XD I just went to the mall to kill some time (and pick up some clothes along the way) and instead I bumped into orgmates (omg what) and ended up watching Hellboy again (is it just me, or does it go faster on the second showing) and fooling around the arcade.
Favorite purchases of the day (apologies for shite webcam quality for now):
( 'Swanky' Hat )
and
( Boned Pseudo-corset. )

A pair of Finnish Vexen and Saix cosplayers in a video that made me laugh WAY harder than I actually should have. Seriously, whut. XD
In other news, production is finally FINALLY OVER (there was a rerun on Saturday, not that I could attend because of family stuff, but). Went to see grandma; she's okay (and snarling at the doctors with all the vitriol her lack of dentures will allow) but she just got out of the ICU the other day, so they'll be keeping a close eye on her. Also, her renal functions just kicked the bucket, so they keep having to run her through dialysis every few days or she swells up faster than that kid from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Um, other things! I should work on art, I finished watching The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (the out-of-order-ness of the episodes is disorienting) annnd... yeah, that's about it. :D

Having tested a whole bunch of BPAL's stuff by now, I can list quite confidently the top five scents I'd love to get a bottle of. :D
( Cut for length. )
If I could find a vial of Count Dracula I'd ttly get it, too. That stuff's terribly sweet on my skin. I also really like what I've tried of Ars Draconis, though I wish I had more imps of it so I could decide what I like best.
BPAL-enabled friends, I don't suppose you'd care to share some of the wealth? >____> (lolol LOOK WHAT YOU DID,
elonweis. LOOK. WHAT. YOU. DIIID)

While my dreams were strange and lovely, they also made me not wake up for class. Gods. (Also, forgetting to set my alarm helped. Nnngh.)
Robots who looked like people. There was one slightly ... I dunno, in human terms you'd say mentally deficient, in robot ones I guess slightly broken. Point being, for some reason he slept around with a whole lot of people during my dream; twin sisters (separately) and another, ordinary robot chick. For some reason, he was fascinated with kittens, and one would always pop up after he'd uh, done the nasty, and he'd promptly forget about the half-senseless girl beside him and run off after the cat instead. GJ, man. GJ.
With the robot girl, though, he ended up commenting that she was more like the kitten instead, and I guess that was good ('cause she was madly in love with him, like most of the people seemed to be).
It was cool in general, with functional weapon designs and such based around whether a robot-thing had a full bottom half or not (war chargers were dressed in pantaloons and battlefield ambulances in petticoats) and there was one who wasn't sure if his bottom half was inactive or not (for releasing a giant missile) because he couldn't feel it anymore (which made me think 'wat, is he hiding it up there like a giant enema or buttplug or something') but ANYWAY.
... Yeah, I'll just go and hang myself now.

Just came back from watching Hellboy II, finally, and I have to say the sibcest UST was definitely the most attention-grabbing part of the movie. :D /prods at fanfic reads, like
shiegra's. :P
This meme makes me realize how little I've written this year-- I had to reach back to April 2007 to get 25, gods-- and also how absolute shit I am at remembering what I've written. From
myaru:
Post the first line from your 25 most recentfanfics and try to find a pattern. It would be interesting to do this for ENDING lines.
( Whee! )
Um, someone else might do better at picking out the pattern of these, because IDK, rly. I notice that my more recent stuff up top is shorter than the older ones towards the middle, but that's about it.
Also, I had a dream that was vaguely reminiscent of ... the Trojan Horse thing. There were monsters called Reapers that everyone thought were only waterbound, and they were bringing in their corpses (they had exoskeletons that looked like metal, and they were basically big crustacean/insect-looking monsters) to see if they could be melted down or something. There was a movie-voiceover moment (think the intro to Lord of the Rings, with action accompanied by deadpan narration):
The difference between a Reaper on land and a Reaper in water was no difference at all.
Cue all the 'corpses' bursting out of the frames they'd been strung up on, killing people on the way. They had to shut like twenty corridors filled with people to serve as a buffer to the invasion, but maaan. D:

This was a story that's actually a rehash of an older one (this one, to be exact-- what is it with me and remixing stories?) that got bopped off to a magazine (
encreverte and
innervoice_chan know which one :P) but since I never heard back, I figured I might as well post it. I keep changing its title every time I send it off.
Title: in the end together
Summary: Some stories are still worth telling, even if they're not real.
Word Count: ~2800

First show went well, four more to go-- though I'll be missing the second and third, seeing as I'll be at home to review economics.
Lots of happy-crying after the show, for obvious reasons. XP That said, my health seems to have crashed, and I woke up with my nose stuffy and my throat phlegmy this morning. Bleagh. Mostly it's irritating because this means I can't try on BPAL perfumes. XP I can't actually smell if it's okay or not.
Tiiiired. T_T

First show tonight, omg, and I'm operating on exactly ZERO hours of sleep unless you count the fifteen-minute catnaps in class.
I'm excited but terrified. :D :D :D

Have you ever gotten that reaaally trippy sensation where you're awake and slightly drowsy one minute and the next thing you know, it's three hours later and you fell asleep without ever being aware of being unconscious?
Yeah, this production is playing merry hell with my biological clock, and to top that off it's incredibly confusing right now. O R Z

... lol so from 134lbs or so last weekend, I dropped to 130lbs (this is my just-woke-up weight, mind you, before I've gotten bloated with water and such) this weekend. I'm not sure whether I'm losing blubber or muscle mass, but boy howdy, I'd love to lose these tires around my middle. XP MUST... DO... SITUPS...

ONE WEEK TO GO before we run the full show, and there's still a lot to be fiddled with now that critic's night is done. hrrrm. it was fun performing on the actual stage, though i'm not looking forward to setting it all up again. plus there's other set stuff to edit still, so...
BPAL stuff:
Wheel of Fortune is all wintergreen mint on me, which is a scent that makes me crave candy like crazy. Dunno if it's something I'd actually wear around, but there's a first time for everything.
Death is all dark incense-like smells on me (it's a little similar to Judgement, but where Judgement is spicy-incense, this one is just dark, smoky incense). It changes throughout wearing though, more than any BPAL I've tried (with the exception of Yggdrasil,
The Masque turns into a dark, sultry-smelling sorta scent on me, which is nice but kind of... old? Smells like something that should be worn only while in fishnet and stiletto heels, and by someone with red hair and a cigarette holder.
Lady Una is sweet, but doesn't last particularly long; it's also not really a remarkable scent for me, so I guess it's something I should try again.
The Brides of Dracula has incredible staying power on me, if not much throw; the woody notes really stay... and stay... and stay. I went to sleep with this on; twelve hours later, I could still smell it.
I also finally read His Majesty's Dragon today-- polished it off in a few hours straight reading, ahaha-- which was a book series I decided to stay away from because... the Napoleonic Wars just aren't something I'm interested in reading about, dragon-enabled or not. So I turned my nose up at the huge stacks of Temeraire books in Fully Booked. Now I wish I'd picked them up sooner, though at the least I'm getting them free courtesy of my expert book-bumming skills. XD
