A FAMILY MEMBER
OF A HENCHMAN KILLED
BY JACK BAUER ON 24
REMEMBERS.

And yes, the comic strip will return next week as well as [info]planetxthecomic. Fillin' the gaps that Fox leaves empty, that's me.

I don't think there's ever a way to say "filling gaps" without it making people snicker.

Michelle: The New Ripley? [Aug. 25th, 2007|04:59 pm]

24thecomicstrip
I'm surprised no one has said anything about this, but our beloved Reiko Aylesworth has a lead role in the upcoming Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem coming out December 25th in the U.S.A.

Reiko's playing Kelly O'Brien (snicker, though [sp]), and is the brains (and some of the brawn judging by the chain gun she fires) at how to take down both enemies. And fighting the military in the process from taking the residents of her town out with them.

WARNING: This is an R-Rated trailer. INCREDIBLY graphic. We're talking head-popping gore here-- emphasis on "POP".

(in case the trailer has been removed, go to AVP-R.com to check it out.)

Our Windy City gal is showing her midwestern toughness in this one.

He pulls a retractable mouth, you pull a machete. He pulls a shoulder-mounted plasma caster, you pull an M-61 Vulcan!

THAT'S THE CHICAGO WAY!

In case you're still down about Day Six (and really, who isn't?), maybe this'll cheer you up for those summer lull blues:

An original five day tale of little Jack Bauer, age 10.

Chapter 1!
Chapter 2!
Chapter 3, hot off the press today!
Chapter 4: Thursday
The Final Chapter: Friday

Tell/email/IM your fellow 24 non-LJ friends too about Jack kickin' it old school. Really old school.

In response to [info]whitecain's previous post, i'm going to jump to Seven's defence.

While there are many dedicated fans of the show (us), there is not a wide fan-base for this show anymore, in this country anyway. After the initial success of the first season, the show quickly became a cult show and ratings here dropped. This was further compacted by the fact that the last few seasons have been shown well after they have aired in the U.S, which led to increased downloading.

Channel 7 is a business. They compete with other businesses. The more people watch their shows, the more advertisers pay to advertise during them, and thus the company makes more profits. I don't agree with this, but that's the way it is and will remain, barring a communist revolution.

Look at these comparisons of season average audiences for the show (rough averages):

2001 (s1)
1.7m @ 8.30
-excellent ratings, timeslot winning.

2002 (s2)
1.3m @ 8.30
-decent ratings, competetive.

2004 (s3)
was on at 11.30pm, no data.
-probably won it's timeslot.

2005 (s4)
700k @ varying times (mostly 9.30 from memory?)
-average ratings, not very competetive.

2006 (s5
6/700k @ 9.30 (remember, just about all of these are 2hr averages because of the double-eps)
-not competetive, won it's timeslot only once I think.

I'll agree insofar as the Programmers at Seven are half the reason that the show's ratings have gone downhill, due to how they dealt with season 3 (initially) and subsequently the last two seasons. But it's a relatively safe bet to say that Australia is either sick of, or just doesn't like anymore, 24. On a personal note, I think the averages above are a reflection of how good the seasons were.

But it's also a safe bet to say that if, for example, Channel 9 had picked this series up, then it would have been plastered all over the place at different timeslots on different days. Whilst Seven is a competetive business, on the whole it is the most loyal to fans of the shows it screens. You should be thankful that they are a) airing it almost concurently with U.S screenings, and b) they are giving it a stable timeslot with a very healthy (almost the best you could have) lead-in in Prison Break. Keeping 24 in the 8:30 slot would have been a complete waste for Seven given that they have so much amazing product this year. Already, the opening 2 hours put on a rather dissapointing result (which I will elaborate on in another post).

So, while i'm sure we'd all love to have the show on at a much more convenient time of night, it's just not going to happen unless more people start watching. Perhaps we should be venting our anger at the people of Australia, or even ourselves for downloading and not watching the show on tv.

[mood | frustrated]

Once again, the Seven Network screws fans of 24.

Following this weeks primetime screenings of the first four hours of the new sixth season... The remainder of the season has been dumped on Wednesday night at 10.30pm

What a joke. Is it any wonder people download, which created the 'People don't watch it anymore so we'll dump it late night' problem to start with.

Jackasses!

[music |Hans Zimmer - The Da Vinci Code: Ad Arcana]

A few minor developments since my last post.

After the initial 4-hour season opener (tonight and thursday), 24 will move to a single episode each week at 10:30pm Wednesdays. This has it after Prison Break (an amazing combo imo). Coupled with what looks to be one of the best news shows out of America (Heroes) on Wednesdays, it looks to be a night that 7 could win easily, and thus one which holds the promise of good ratings for 24 given the timeslot.

Anyway, get out there and watch!

Season 6 In Australia!! [Jan. 24th, 2007|05:25 pm]

__orionlady
So amongst the huge hype surrounding Channel 7's news shows this year (three cheers for betty? I think I can fly!), Seven have decided to air season 6 of our beloved show in the first half of the year!!

But before you go celebrating the fact that they've advertised the show for Tuesday 8:30, there are a few conditions to it being in such an awesome timeslot. Firstly, 8:30 Tuesday the 30th January does not fall into the official ratings period (which starts Feb 11 I think). Secondly, it will only remain in that slot for the two days (Tues, Thur) as the '4 hour premiere'. After this time, ratings will have started and it will be moved to a post 9:30 timeslot. This part is not confirmed, but it is the general consensus.

Unless, of course, people who watch tv love it and it rates extremely well, in which case Seven may stick with it. And given that it will be almost concurrent with U.S screenings, the chances of this happening compared to last year are greatly increased, because most fans of the show in this country do download (and then complain about the great show being in such a shitty timeslot! *wink*). Still, the chances of this happening are remote *sigh*.

So, to recap:

Tuesday 30th
8.30 - 9.30 = 6.1
9.30 - 10.30 = 6.2

Thursday 1st
8.30 - 9.30 = 6.3
9.30 - 10.30 = 6.4

At this point things remain unconforimed, but the best looking timeslot looks like:

Thursday 8th
10:30 - 11.30 = 6.5

If this changes, I will make another post with details. If not, enjoy what looks to be yet another action packed season of the best damn show on television!
